'Scream 4' is Still Cookin'
Filed under: Comedy, Horror, RumorMonger, Remakes and Sequels
It's been cooking for over a year, and while you might have wished for the project to slip into development hell and never escape, Scream 4 is still on the way. According to HorrorMovies.ca, a community member has shared the latest about the sequel, which is said to reboot the horror movie-loving franchise. If the source is right, 4 will jump into production early this year, "re-starting" the franchise, but adding in some old characters. It seems that Jamie Kennedy told iFMagazine that he might reprise his role, and that "the rest of the cast would be a mixture of new characters with 'old faces that you wouldn't believe,' and that the film will only go ahead with the involvement of director Wes Craven." As of December 13, writer Michael T. Kennedy was still waiting to hear from the Weinsteins about whether his script was a Go.
I'm not quite sure how you reboot the franchise, include the original characters, yet focus on new ones. Was there another killer out there while Billy and Stu sliced and diced their friends? Is Sidney not the only girl in Woodsboro to attract vengeful murderers? What faces will return? I've always wished for a Scream franchise where Randy and Tatum were the ones who got to live, but I think that ship has sailed.

What they might be doing is rebooting the movie franchise within the movie franchise. Whatever. Jamie Kennedy's character should've been the mastermind all along, but they screwed that up. I could care less where they go with a fourth one.

I also don't care what plot it has (And who would, it's been a LONG time since Scream 3... no one remembers it)... I would definitely like to see it happen though. You know they're dying to sell more of those Scream masks, so what better time than now.
Even though that poster is a fake, I think it is pretty sweet... I like it.

Call me a purist, but wasn't the trilogy-nature of the Scream series fairly integral to the whole horror-movie deconstruction? When all is said and done, what's this going to look like?
Scream: We're in a horror movie.
Scream 2: We're in a horror movie sequel.
Scream 3: We're in the finale to a horror movie trilogy.
Scream 4: We're in the throw-away slasher film they made years later to try and make some extra scratch.
Scream Pleads the 5th: We're in the next sequel where they recast the lead--by the way, Sid, did you get a face-lift?
The Sixth Scream: We're in an art-house flick made by some auteur director who thinks he can bring the dignity back to the franchise.
Scream 7: We're in a comedy slasher in which every single character phones in their performance.
Wes Craven's New Scream: We're in the return-to-form horror movie that brought back the original director and bits of the original cast in an attempt (again) to bring back the dignity.
Yeah. This will definitely turn out well.

Maybe they'll go in a Final Destination direction. Have similar events happen to someone else, who seeks out surviving cast members for help/advice. Then just repeat it with different twists I guess...
Lame.

Great faux poster. Cleverly done, with the 4 replacing the A. Very 1337.
I loved the original Scream with all its post-modernity, but the follow-ups were instantly forgettable.
And I still kind of blame the Scream franchise for the entire Scary/Epic/Date/Whatever Movie franchises. That is unforgivable.

I consider myself a fan of the original trilogy and have been dreading yet at the same time expecting a 4th movie to surface. I think Kurt makes a point in that the trilogy is suppose to BE a 3-part movie and nothing more. I mean the 3rd one tied up all the loose strings, what could they possibly do to bring back the original characters, add new ones, and still be a halfway decent movie?
And frankly the 'new' characters they brought into the last movie were all two-demensional assholes. Effin' Patrick Dempsey. And how would they bring Jamie Kennedy back? The 3rd one used a pretty tricky method, but I really don't think they can do that kind of thing again.
Finally, that poster is totally kickass. Even if its a fake, its really good.

If Wes Craven is involved, then the best way to do this is to follow the "New Nightmare" concept where the actors are themselves and the story starts with them getting together for a 10-year cast reunion. Chaos ensues from there. (Come on, wouldn't it be fun to have Skeet Ulrich be the killer in this movie because he was upset that he didn't get to be a part of the sequels?)

oh my gosh!!, I think the whole trilogy of "Scream" is so effing lame!!, seriously guys come on, they didn't even kill off Sidney in the 3rd sequel, never less not anyone from the first and second, gosh, any film maker woul know that ou have to kill off the person from the first and maybe the second in the 3rd sequel seriously, I mean look at previous sequels, "A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors", Heather Langenkamp was killed off and in "Alien 3" Sigourney Weaver was killed off, "Spider-Man 3" Peter Parkers best friend was killed off, "X-Men 3: The Last Stand" Jean Grey was killed off, see my point and the "Child's Play" series is just as lame as this "Scream" trilogy, Andy wasn't killed off, frick, it seems that the film makers these days are trying to break the effing rules, I just saw "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" the other day and it was in the past kind of film, time travel, but still they were mentioned in the first film and they were killed off in the 3rd!!, see my point, "I deman they remake the trilogy of "Scream" and killed off the Sidney chick in the 3rd "Scream" sequel" besides the "Scream" trilogy and the "Child's Play" trilogy would've been a whole lot better if they had killed off Andy and Sidney =)

i think that scream for would be great as long as you keep it original and have the same main characters because if you change them then it is a discrase to the movie and you should give it a different name
