'Twilight' Sidelines Robert Pattinson's Indie Film Career
Filed under: Drama, Independent, Casting
While I haven't found myself caught up in the whirlwind that is Twilight, I have been digging Robert Pattinson's career path. The cutie Brit made a name for himself as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter, and yeah, his big follow-up was another fanatic, fantastical frenzy (but with vampires). However, in between he took on some indie work. Not just an alternative to The Love Guru with How to Be, but also sexy man-on-man action as the epic Salvador Dali in Little Ashes. But even the best intentions can't beat scheduling, and MTV reports that Pattinson has dropped Parts Per Billion because he's focusing on the Twilight sequel New Moon. If you aren't familiar with Billion, it's a new indie film being produced by Rosario Dawson. She, along with Olivia Thirlby and Dennis Hopper are part of a number of storylines taking place in the same city during "a life-threatening situation."
This should be both good and bad news for Pattinson fans -- he might be focusing on that vamp romance of his, but it also means that the rumored steamy love scenes with Thirlby won't be happening. Anyone out there want to take his place?

Oh hi, I've never tested my acting chops, but thrown my hat into the ring for "actin" alongside Ms. Thirlby.

Rob was contractually obligated to do New Moon before he signed to do PPB and would not have been able to work both movies so closely together. Too bad, I know all of his fans want to get as much Rob as they can. At least we will see him in "Little Ashes" and "How To Be" early this year ;) Rob is an extremely talented actor and musician, along with being the sexiest man alive...it's no wonder everyone wants more!!!

Olivia is young and a cutie and she shouldn't give it away, if at all to a million leering eyes. And don't smoke.
p.s. your mother said to call =P

I think this may also be a case of Summit being jerks. Other actors have worked two films at once, and shooting schedules have been arranged to accommodate the actor.
The Edward Cullen character is hardly even in New Moon, if the filmmakers plan to follow the book. He's only there at the beginning and the end; the middle of the book focuses on the Jacob/Bella relationship, so I don't see why Rob couldn't have been allowed the opportunity to be in PPB (which, unlike Twilight, looks like it may actually be about real adult relationships--how refreshing), and it would have also been an opportunity for Rob to show the fangirls that he's not Edward Cullen and not just another pretty face.

I agree I think he as potential to be a good actor. I am excited to see both of his new movies How to be and Little ashes. Hopefully it will prove he can do other work besides teeny movies.

Poor Rob. Summit is not really being fair here, Rob is hardly going to be in New Moon. At the Begining for like what? 20 minutes at the least? Maybe even ten! And a little at the end.
He should be able to go and do the other movie instead of having to just sit around and wait for when they need him again for New Moon.....but someday he will have to stop being Edward Cullen.
Don't get me wrong I am a HUGE fan of the Twilight series and I am looking forward to New Moon. But it is just that this is NOT fair to Rob.

He'll have more opportunities, especially after How To Be and Little Ashes. I caught How To Be at the Austin Film Festival and his performance is poignant.
