Craven's 'Last House' Clearly Wasn't

It's been nearly Well, at the risk of sounding completely and utterly immoral, I find myself similarly intrigued by this new trailer (watch below or over on Apple) for this new take on Last House, in which Sara Paxton gets seriously bullied by some local punks, who in turn unwittingly seek refuge with understandably vengeful parents Monica Potter and Tony Goldwyn. Scott, our resident horror-hound whose assessment of the original I happen to agree with (overrated, though not without merit), had this much to say after watching the trailer: "Uhh, motel room? She survives? Microwave? Eep. Nice to see Tony Goldwyn getting work, though."
Okay, I'll give him the somewhat silly microwave bit, but other than that, I think this looks like an interesting enough revenge thriller that doesn't totally upend the original. And kudos to Rogue Pictures or whoever they have handle their trailers -- the ones for this, The Strangers, and The Unborn work pretty well, even when the final films*cough*Unborn*cough*don't.
Whoa-whoa-oh, sweet trailer of mine...

I think it looks pretty cool actually. I mean the original aint exactly a work of art, and the microwave made me lol at the end :)

There's no determined date yet, so far as I can tell. Probably March, possibly April, though Rogue is already opening "Fighting" then.

Word to ROGUE knowing how to cut a decent trailer. The "Sweet Child o' Mine" cover is a blissfully haunting nice touch. (Anyone know who it is?)
I also thought that was Alexis Bledel with some blonde streaks and aged makeup for a moment...

This movie looks to continue the streak of bad horror movie remakes but this accomplishes something worse than any of the previous did. I recently watched the original and saw it as Wes launching off visceral horror of the seventies. The premise of a couple seeking revenge on a group of outlaws for killing their daughter was great because it allowed the characters to act as monster and victim thereby showing their humanity. This trailer shows the parents getting back at the villains just beating up and attempting to kill the daughter and just killing them but also torturing them. In the original I could simultaneously fear and root for both sets of characters. The remake for me doesn't show the villains as that much evil and shows the heroes as way to evil. Movies like the halloween and black christmas remakes had the problem of going overboard with horror and movies like Prom Night and House Of Wax had the problem of not going far enough. This movie appears to have both problems.
