2009 Golden Globes Best and Worst Recap

Oh come on!! Bullock was one of the best presenters of the night!! She seemed completely at home on stage, making all of her jokes come out without making it seem like she was reading directly from a script like almost every other presenter of the night. She wasn't awkward and it was a very nice presentation on her part. I can agree with every other one of your "Worst" choices, but I cannot let that slip by unwarranted. Give her a break!!

Oh, but I would like to add Renée Zellweger looking more than a little bit nuts while presenting. Anyone else think this??

Am I seriously the only one that thought that the Amy Poehler / Patrick Dempsey talking over each other thing was clearly a joke? And a funny joke at that! How is it in the worst category...because it was a joke that was actually funny as opposed to the rest of the mediocre tripe?

Sacho Baron Cohen's madonna joke was hilarious. I don't care how the audience reacted. And the guy who said "fuck" while accepting the Best Picture award for Slumdog Millionaire was great. (Did that make it onto American television or was it censored. Whatever, it played in Canada and made me smile) And the worst was the fact that someone invited the Jonas brothers.

There was plenty of memorable quotes all night long.

Mickey about his life lately: "When a man is old and alone, he can only counts on his dogs" (or something like that)

I dont remember who, about the nip/tucked croud: "Benjamin Button is the story of an old man who gets younger as he grows older; like a lot of people in this place" (or something like that)

Angelina Jolie also seemed pissed all night long.

Leo and his eternal 16 years old

And Tom Cruise locking up Katie in the car, so she wont see that Valkyrie isnt actually nominated

think Leonardo Dicaprio should be nominated for Revolutionary Road. Great actor. has played a variety of characters and played them really really well. Not the first time I think he should've been nominated and won (ex THe Departed and Blood Diamond!!!!) HELLO?OSCAR?

I'm pretty sure Poehler and Dempsey talked over each other on purpose. One of them, or both, would've stopped if they hadn't planned it. But YES to Drew Barrymore. And add on Renee Zellweger's drugged-out look. I also loved when the Jonas brothers came out and it seemed like nobody in the audience knew who they were. :)

@harveystewart - they blanked the screen out momentarily during the Slumdog speech.

Loved Kate winning both awards! She deserves them. Oscar, take note. She's frakking due.

Was Johnny Depp drunk, or just is he that way? I couldn't tell. I like winslet, but give it to Anne Hathaway, or meryl. They were incredible! Also, very happy for Heath and walle and slumdog. The highlights of the night! Dev patel and freida pinto are so cute together, but she is gorgeous! And megan fox, not so much tonight. I hated drew barrymores hair although I did like sandra bullock! She looked great tonight. Well that's about it. It was a good show tonight!

I am glad that Momma Mia did not win any awards. They are a B-rated wanna be musical, that has terrible over dubbed singing, and dancing. I cannot believe this movie was even nominated. As for the critics that gave it good reviews really need to rethink their rating, or were they paid off? This really sets the bar low. What will happen to the real great musicals like Rent, Across the Universe? Maybe a fun movie yes, but it does not deserve the good reviews it got, and I am very disappointed, specially to those that are musical lovers. All movie makers have to do his get a Mother whom runs around with three men, and her daughter does not even know who her real father is, and it's a comedy and fun loving? Maybe have a Jerry Springer musical? Add a cast that cannot sing so they can be overdubbed, and no dancing, and add some medicare pop music from the Disco era and we have a great movie. It this is really what really entertains us now? All you have to do is watch American Idol auditions to see the people who cannot sing or dance, and cast them in Momma Mia 2. Now we have a great movie. Roger Ebert was right in his criticism of Momma Mia, and one of the few great critics. It seems no one can sincerely, and constructively critic a movie anymore. Where do these people come from? Are they really independent, or made a deal with the devil "Hollywood" got paid off to give good ratings to horrible movies?

I thought Sigourney looked HOT .. dear Lord, she was one of the few women who knows how to walk across a stage in a dress ... Yeah, Drew's hair was horrid. Pinto Bean was not hot .. poor baby. she looked terrified. I thought both In Brugges actors should have won ... it's tough when they are against each other like that ...
I thought it was kinda a fun party mood and less stiff than the Oscar show ...

Slumdog Millionaire. That thing is gonna win Best Picture at the Oscars, I just know it. Ugh. I'm just about the only person who DIDN'T get all gushy about that flick; I thought it was pretty mediocre...

The Amy Poehler bit was definitely a joke, done on purpose.

They did not bleep out the eff in Christian Colson's Slumdog acceptance speech here in Canada on CTV, but a friend told me it was bleeped on whatever network he was watching.

All in all, a very entertaining show. Can't wait for the Oscars!

Side note: can they not organize the damn space a bit better so people don't have to constantly stand and get out of the winner's way as they ever-so-slowly make their way to the stage. I get the party atmosphere bit, but, honestly, leave a bit of space for folks to get through and the show would easily be 5-10mins shorter and you wouldn't have to rush some of the acceptance speeches.

I'm not convinced that Tracy Morgan was at all wasted. Erik, have you seen "30 Rock"? That's exactly how his character (Tracy Jordan) talks and acts. I still maintain that he was simply in character.

S.B.Cohen was funny as hell!! what the hell are you talking about, his jokes had zing! and he wasn't trying to be fake like everyone else in that crowd kissing ass, like those millionaires actually care, or have a heart for the whole madonna/ ritchie issue, gimme a break....AND Gervais was funny as hell, while drinking on stage..CLASSIC..

To me, Shaun Diddy Whatever Combs was the worst presenter. He's spread what little talent he had so thin that it's obvious he peaked and now can't even carry off a style-over-substance presence while uttering words written on cue cards.

I'm pretty happy with all of the awards...I haven't seen the Winslet movies yet, but with that exception, I was really happy to see Colin Farrell get a (much deserved) award for In Bruges, Wall-E got some love, Slumdog was a FANTASTIC film-top five of 2008, and it deserves the love.

I'm also glad that they didn't fawn over Benjamin Button. Am I the only one who felt like that movie was just trying too damn hard to be important? It was by no means bad, but I left feeling pretty much like "Eh!"

And finally, Erik, I love your best and worst, especially Bruce winning, Don Cheadle and Fargo, and Freida Pinto...my god, she's gorgeous!!!

By the way, did anybody else find that Mickey Rourke-coke joke from Seth Rogen hilarious but incredibly awkward?

Didn't some presenter refer to "The Curious Case of Benjamin BRITTEN"? "A fable for our times about a 20th Century British composer and the orchestras that loved him"?
