9:00pm -- I now turn you over to Mr. Erik Davis, who might not type as quickly as I do, but his thoughts are a lot more interesting than mine. Plus I can't watch any more of these commercial breaks. I need some Futurama. G'night!

8:58pm -- Demi-goddess Moore is giving out Best Supporting Actor (Not Drama, Though), and it goes to the late Heath Ledger. Predictable, OK, but still classy.

8:56pm
-- Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore swoop in with a collective cackle and give the Best Mini-Series / TV Movie Prize to John Adams. Tom Hanks accepts the award for Mr. Adams, who has been dead since 1826.

8:52pm
-- Donnie Darko hypes Benny Button: "It's a fable for our time." Groan.

8:50pm -- Commercial Break Poetry

There once was a movie called Howard the Duck
And dear sweet lord did that movie suck.

Also: I love Isla Fisher, but her "big starring role" movie looks like canned migraine.

8:47pm -- Sally Hawkins? More like Sally Talkins! (Oh snap.)

8:43pm -- The always-cool Johnny Depp is on to give out Best Actress (Musical, Comedy or Musical Comedy), and he hands it to Sally Hawkins for Happy-Go-Lucky, which would be considered a big shock if this was the Oscars and not the Globes. (Sorry.)

8:40pm -- See, I was originally supposed to do hour two and not hour one. If I'd done that, "the Jonas brothers" would have been in bed by now, and I wouldn't be feeling 121 years old just for not knowing who they are.

Anyways, the category is Best Animated Film. Winner, of course, is the wonderfully awesome Wall-E. I'm just hitting PUBLISH now. It hasn't actually won yet.

Golden Globes Winners 2009

8:38pm -- Everything Ricky Gervais just said was funny. Especially the Extras nod he made to Ms. Winslet.

8;35pm -- Commercial Break Kitty Story

I have to hide Jonesy's catnip mouse inside of an air-tight jar, otherwise he'd play with it until his heart burst.

8:31pm -- TV, actress, drama series. The new Spock 'n' Kirk give it to Anna Paquin for True Blood, which is cool because A) it's a good show, B) she's damn good in it, and C) DANG she grew up sek-say.

8:29pm -- Aw, Hayden Pantyerireaeare is really pretty! This (TV!) award is for Best Actor (Drama) and it goes to Gabriel Byrne for End of Days Treatment. Let's move on.

8:27pm
-- But not as much as having The Spirit mentioned if you're Eva Mendes. Zing.

8:26pm -- Yes, Don Cheadle was just introduced as "Hotel for Dogs' Don Cheadle!" That's gotta sting just a little.

8:24pm -- Commercial Break Philosophy: If there were no awards shows, how would actors know if they were any good?

Also: Demi Moore is the real-life Benjamin Button. She looks like she could be cast in the St. Elmo's Fire prequel.

8:19pm -- Same category, estrogen division. The female equivalent to Tom Wilkinson is ... Laura Dern for Recount, which is a horror film about cloned vampires. (Isn't it?)

8:15pm -- Ugh, some TV award. Isn't this what we have TV Squad for? ;-) So this one is ... supporting actor, comedy, variety, mini- or maxi-series, or something. And the victor is ... Tom Wilkinson for playing Ben Franklin! Cool! An actual actor.

8:12pm -- Commercial Break Poetry

Yo there once was a globe and it was golden
I think they once gave one to William Holden

...and a random thought of fury: Why is Jennifer Connelly in the cast of this new romantic comedy ... yet she's NOT IN THE COMMERCIALS? Good LORD!

8:09pm -- Best Song. Choose between Wall-E, Bolt, Gran Torino, The Wrestler and Cadillac Records, which I must say is one really strange mixture of films. Anyway the winner is Bruce Springsteen for The Wrestler. So that's Sting presenting a GOLDEN GLOBE to The Boss. Weird.

8:00pm -- OK, during this brain-damaging opening sequence I decided to check out the schedule of what's on tap for the first hour. And already we have an award...

Jennifer Lopez giving out the award for best supporting actress: It goes to ... Kate Winslet for Titanic 2: Life Raft Boogaloo. No, just kidding. It was for The Reader. Winslet is awesome, so that's good news, I guess.

7:50pm -- Pre-show commercials. I hate pre-show. But the Eagles won, so I'm in a good mood. Must get coffee. (Pause.) (Return.) Some girl asks Sting about his nomination, but he wasn't nominated tonight. Oops. Then the same idiot tries to ask Salma Hayek a bunch of questions, despite the fact that nobody CAN HEAR HER. More commercials. Dang, do people really WATCH this stuff?
