Eckhart Teases Two Face Return; Fanboys Freak Out

What happens when you get a few of the stars from The Dark Knight on the red carpet at the Golden Globes? Well, you bombard them with sequel questions, of course. And even though Aaron Eckhart has previously said that the character of Harvey Dent/Two Face was (and we quote) "Dead as a door nail," the man has apparently had a change of heart (or should we say he's become a bit two-faced?). While speaking to MTV at the Globes last night, Eckhart had this to say about his character: "I think Harvey - if he's not dead - is in a serious coma ... and I'm not sure he's coming out. They might pull the plug on him."
Now MTV ran the video of this quote alongside the text, and Eckhart just laughs his way through the entire thing as if to say: "Ask me one more question about that freaking movie Horowitz and you're going down ... hard." On which villains he'd want in the next flick, Eckhart said he'd love to see Angelina Jolie play Catwoman and Johnny Depp play Riddler. And while it's quite obvious no one knows anything yet (there's not even a script!), remember that Nolan brought back Scarecrow for a brief scene in Dark Knight, and so Two Face may show up in the next sequel if it makes enough sense. Personally, I'd rather see different villains -- but that's me. What do you make of all this?

I think I'd be happy either way... I can accept he is dead but I also wonder about that scene with Maroni, where they go out of their way to point out a fall from that height is not lethal.
Two-Face is one of my favorite characters and so I'd be stoked to see him come back and add even more depth to an already fantastic run but, as you said, I'd also like to see Nolan's take on other characters so I guess that makes me pretty much neutral.

I loved Eckhart as Two Face. I feel, that his performance never got the appreciation it deserved. I especially loved "Heads - you get to keep you head. Tails... Not so lucky." scene. It's a wonderful scene, that for the first time shows the darker side of Harvey. And Eckhart pulls it off perfectly.
Anyway, back on topic... Nolan brought Scarecrow back, but the situation was completely different. We knew Scarecrow is out there. And it was a nice addition to the start of Dark Knight - showing us the situation in the city. We might see more of Harvey's funeral (I always assumed, that at the end of the movie we see a glimpse of Gordon giving a speech at Harvey's funeral) and how his death affects the city, but alive Harvey makes little sense to me.

Using taxpayer money to keep the DA on life support when the police commissioner knows that he had had a psychotic break as a result of the trauma he had recently endured and thus became a homicidal maniac? The citizens of Gotham deserve a little better than that, especially with the economy being what it is these days.

I'd love to see Nolan's interpretation of Catwoman. I know it would blow our collective minds.
I hope the throw away line in the film, (in regards to the new batsuit standing up to dogs):
"It should do fine against cats."
is a hint of things to come.

Oh hell yeah... There is no way they didn't know what they were doing by throwing that line in. They may not end up using her but I have to believe that was intentional. The same way the Joker card at the end of Begins was not designed to be a lead in for the yet undecided sequel but was there just in case.
I think it would to be fantastic to see a Nolanized Catwoman... No super powers or anything, just a highly talented thief, preferably in a costume similar to the one with the goggles.

I always dug the idea of Harvey Dent coming back just because it already seems like the new movie's theme is going to be one of redemption. And since: one, he wasn't Two-Face for that long and two, he "died" in a bad way thats almost begging for redemption in itself. Plus, Batman is currently wanted by the law because he was blamed for Dent's "death" so how else could he clear his name but to have Dent return?

You're right, it has to be a redemption. But for Batman to be redeemed after killing the "White Knight of Gotham" it'll take a seriously heinous crime. Two face returning as only a villian would make sense, he would have to not be harvey anymore, though. I think it would be best to have one villian to contend with, since at least some of the plot would have to be dedicated to the city's effort in tracking down Batman and bringing him to justice. Personally I don't like the Penguin as a villian, but it would make sense to have him play the great business man who turns gotham around as he rob's them blind would be a great hero/antihero plot

when i saw the movie for the first time i think harvey really died. but i saw the movie again last week and the las dialogue between gordon and batman realize that maybe harvey is alive, and batman take the "credit" for the murders that harvey did.
so in that way, we can assume that harvey is alive and the gordon's speach is beacuse he is at coma state or something like that

I think this whole thing is pretty obvious. Everyone keeps asking if "Harvey Dent" will be back. All the responses have been that he will not or coyly played like this. What we need to ask is whether "Two-Face" will be back. I think Nolan and Co. are telling us Dent is dead but that we will probably see Two-Face in the sequel, only he'll be a true villain.

How about Officer Ramirez (her fate was to "live to see another day" when 2Face flipped for her life-foreshadowing?) coming back as Catwoman, but this time the character would be played by someone like Michelle Rodriguez, who has done plenty of action dramas. If I recall, she was down by the narrows when 2Face knocked her out, possibly using up one of her "nine lives."
What I really don't want to see is Rachel coming back as Catwoman. If she comes back, you have the possibility of three main characters dying and then coming back (Dent, Gordon, Dawes). You can't do that to the audience that many times and have it still seem plausible, even in a "Batman" movie.
I think another question we need to consider is: What about the Joker? He DEFINITELY didn't die. So is he not to be seen, or do you get Daniel Day Lewis to reprise the role???

I think the sequel should be about Harley Quinn, and Catwoman, and Two Face, with Catwoman being a character on the border of hero and villain, Harley Quinn could be a woman working as the Joker until he escapes Arkham, and Two Face being the main villain, because he didn't die.

I think that two-face is going to return, joker is still going to be running around and making havoc in the background. I think that the Riddler is coming back - .... Mr. Reece is the only other person besides Fox and Alfred knowing Wayne's secret.

I think that this time around 2-face (if he is dead) didnt really last very long as a villian. IN the old movies 2 face was in a whole movie and inthis one just about an hour really. Either way tho i'd like to see the riddler in the next one.

It Would be like bringing Com. Loeb back into the movies, Nonsense. Two Face, like the Joker, served there purpose ( very well that i may add) and it's time for another person to shine!
