Vanessa Hudgens Joining 'Twilight' Sequel?
Filed under: Action, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Casting, RumorMonger, Fandom, Remakes and Sequels

Just when you thought your favorite stars from High School Musical were graduating from the big-screen forever, it looks like Vanessa Hudgens (aka Oops, Remember When I Accidentally Took Naked Pictures of Myself) is auditioning for a role in another blockbuster franchise -- only this time she'll get to show her teeth. According to MTV, Hudgens has auditioned for the role of Leah Clearwater in the Twilight sequel, New Moon. Ah, but don't go hoping for tons of biting and sucking on Hudgens' part -- see, Clearwater is a female werewolf who's described as bitter and cynical, and eventually antagonizes Jacob because he's still in love with Bella ... who's about to marry Edward and become a vampire too. The character is also featured in the third and fourth books, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, which means there's a good chance Hudgens would sign for the franchise.
Summit would be smart to cast Hudgens in a role since she'd most definitely bring her High School Musical fanbase (most of which are probably Twilight fans already). Oh, and seeing as she's a total hottie, one might argue that her casting could entice more boys to scope out the sequel. With a bigger budget, a new director (Chris Weitz) and a host of familiar teen names, could New Moon break more box office records when it hits theaters on November 20, 2009?
What do you Twilight fans think of Hudgens? Too cutesy to play a werewolf, or perfect for the role?

Breaking Dawn is book 4 - not book 3... (And I really wouldn't say that Bella is about to marry Edward in New Moon, given that he doesn't even bring up the subject until book 3 - Eclipse - and they get engaged in Eclipse and married in New Moon) This is the only problem with news articles about books - I completely understand the fact that folks haven't read the books - but at the same time I have a hard time staying quiet about it.

I hope to god Vanessa Hudgens does not make it. She will make the movie completely awful and cutesy, and she is definitely not right for the role. Why don't they just have Hannah Montana guest star, too? And maybe Zac Efron? Sounds like High School Musical 4!

Great rebuttal. I haven't read all the books so personally I would not write an article about this franchise without the proper information.

"One of"? How much gfs have you had? Lol! Anyway, I don't know if I want her to be in it, b/c her HSM days have done it for me; that's what I know her for. And yes, she's pretty, but, idk, this thing really confuses me!!!!!!!!!!
I'll watch it though, then I'll make my comments, but Leah is does act like a bitch sometimes especially to Bella, which is weird b/c Kirsten could probably take Vanessa down!
Can't wait for the sequel, now!

Hahaha my bad, I misspoke....what I meant was one of my good friends who happens to be a girl lol...from an acting standpoint, she has no skills from what I've seen so I can see why people are upset/ambivalent on the matter, but since I'm not much of a big fan of the series, I feel pretty indifferent, but I know if I did care I would definitely be pissed lol...but we'll see. If they do cast her, it will be because she will draw in that HSM crowd and make big money. But I'm with you...I pick Kristen over Vannessa!

Oh Puh-lease! Just because someone is hot does not make a movie. And especially with Twilight. I like Vanessa Hudgens, I really do, but she could not play the mean of a bitter girl if she wanted to. Ashley Tisdale could take a role like that better than Vanessa. If anyone took on the role of Leah Clearwater I'd totally be down for Megan Fox, or as far as that goes, Camilla Belle. Have you seen that girl in The Quiet? Anyway, I'm just saying. Don't blend Disney into Twilight. Two very good worlds, but horrible combination. Besides that, I can't wait for November 20th to get here.

Hahaha don't get me twisted girl, I'm with you! I'm just not that invested in the series so I'm just thinking on a base level, but I totally agree...Ashley Tisdale would wreck her shit, and as far as Megan Fox and Camilla Belle, I think those are two really great choices that would work a lot better...even though I'm not much more convinced by Fox's acting skills LOL...but you can't have everything...some of the acting in the first movie was kinda campy. Regardless of who they cast, I liked the first flick enough that I'll go see the second one.

Leah Clearwater IS one of the more hateable characters in the book, mind you (Next to Rosalie in the first few books), so in that respect it is very easy to hate Vanessa Hudgens.
But from the perspective of a fan of the entire book series, I can say that I'd rather anyone else in the acting world get the role. And I do mean ANYONE.

i completely agree, she would only ruin the movie.
i'm sure they can find a better person than her to play leah.

WHYYYYYYYYYYY. They already decimated the last movie but now they're getting vanessa hudgens, whose acting is weak, might i add for a role that demands a very powerful female lead. That and if shes cast for the franchise then shell ruin the rest of them too. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect much from them anymore and personally i think that the writer would've at least read the books because adding stupid lines like " my little spider monkey" *cringes* were out of character. And then all the little tweens will watch the stupid awful movies and completely miss the depth of the books. Its a tragedy i tell you.

that spider monkey line was the worst. i think that right there ruined the entire movie for me. they gave him several lines that edward just would not have ever said in the book. i found pattinson to be a good actor in the harry potter movies, but then when twilight came out i thought that his acting seemed awkward and never felt that he was totally immersed in the character.
not to say at all that he is a bad actor, i just feel that maybe the directing or coaching that he was given was not accurate with how the real character of edward is in the books. they made pattinson overact on too many things in twilight like over exaggerating his lines at some points. the only thing i can liken his performance to is emma watson as hermione granger especially where she is overdramatic on some of her lines that are not in a dramatic sequence in the movie.

I agree with the spider monkey comments, after reading the books does not fit in Edward would say more about trusting him not to run into a tree... and I heard somewhere they got a new writer and might try to rewrite the movie so Edward is around for a little bit more of the movie but most of it is rumors.
Personally with minor roles like Leah Clearwater, is it that big a deal? And if Vanessa plays Leah, she wouldn't bring "Gabrielle"...different roles people. If she does get it it will probably be based on whether she can play bitter and cynical.
Most of the picture is going to be about Bella and Jacob anyway. As a fan of the books, I'm more excited that Taylor Lautner is Jacob and hopefully they do the book more justice with the sequel.

That girl can't act ! Her "performance" in HSM3 was embarassing. I hope this is not true for the sake of Twilight. Not that I'm a fan, but I think the franchise has potential if It's not wasted by dumb casting decisions like that (the 1st was to hire Chris Weisz to direct. Summit didn't watch the Golden Compass?)
