Polanski Rape Case Twist: Victim Criticizes LA DA
Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy, Newsstand
The last time I wrote about the neverending case against Roman Polanski back in December, he was looking to have that infamous sex charge dismissed. Since then, there have been demands that he surrender to the court, and others to get the case moved out of LA. But this latest twist makes things interesting: Variety reports that Samantha Geimer, the victim in question, has taken her disapproval of the ongoing case a step further by submitting a court filing criticizing the Los Angeles District Attorney. In the filing, Geimer talks about her disappointment with the DA's refusal to dismiss the case, and how "yet, one more time, given great publicity to the lurid details of those events, for all to read, again." She charges the office with going over those details just to pull attention away from accusations of wrongdoing, and says that Polanski's flight "was not voluntary, it was because the judicial system did not work." Moreover, she claims that the insistence that he return to courts is merely "a joke, a cruel joke being played on me."
Should Polanski not show up himself when the hearing begins on January 21, Geimer says she will be there to beg for dismissal. I doubt old Roman will be heading for Los Angeles any time soon, so do you think Geimer will be successful?

The fact the victim forgives the crime has no validity. This act was a crime against society.I'm sympathetic to her points but Polanski is to blame, not the DA.Polanski must pay the price or stay in France.

Polanski did not flee the jurisdiction to avoid prosecution, he fled after being convicted of an especially nasty crime - oral, vaginal and anal sex forced upon a 13 year old who he fed a combination of champagne and quaaludes. More accurately, that's what he did, but he was able to plead to a lesser crime.
Originally he was charged with "rape by use of drugs, perversion, sodomy, lewd and lascivious act upon a child under 14, and furnishing a controlled substance (methaqualone) to a minor", he plead guilty to "engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor." This is all documented and is not in dispute.
In a 2003 interview, the victim said: ""Straight up, what he did to me was wrong. But I wish he would return to America so the whole ordeal can be put to rest for both of us." Furthermore, "I'm sure if he could go back, he wouldn't do it again. He made a terrible mistake but he's paid for it"."
How exactly has he paid for anything? He sits in Europe like a king, avoiding countries that have extradition agreements with either USA or UK, filing and winning lawsuits in American courts for things like 'defamation of character' (against Vanity Fair), as he continues to thumb his nose and avoid his prison sentence for raping a kid while collecting filmmaking awards and honours, including the Oscar and Palme d'Or.
And the fact that so many Hollywood 'stars' jump at the chance to work with him is disgusting and disturbing (Harrison Ford, Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan - are you listening?). He's managed to turn his victim into a supporter and blame the police and the prosecutors for his situation.
How exactly does an escaped convicted pedofile felon manage all this? Because - besides lacking a moral center - he's rich and is counting on the passage of time and failing memories. Someone needs to bring this evil rabid dog down. Child molesters belong in prison.

watch Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired it gives a reasonable take on his position and the judges misconduct in the case and Polanski's reason for fleeing to France

'alleged' misconduct. and even if everything claimed in that documentary is true, that still does not excuse what he did, or the fact that he fled, and remains a fugitive. remember, he admitted to his crimes. what he did to that child is NOT in dispute, including not by him.

Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired. I love how the apologia for Polanski's crime tries to make raping a child sound roguish and sexy. They may as well have subtitled it "The B**** Was Asking for It".
