Alternative Ending to 'Pineapple Express'
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Sony, Scripts, Newsstand, Home Entertainment, Movie Marketing, Trailers and Clips
You probably won't be terribly surprised to discover there's an alternate ending to Pineapple Express -- but you might be surprised to find out how bleak it was. I think we're all glad it didn't end this way, particularly since this scene feels less like an ending and ... well, more like a random DVD extra. I mean, where is Seth Rogen's left hand? Why doesn't he move it? Is it missing? Why does the dialogue feel so inorganic?
This comes courtesy of Empire, whose gotten so cool about handing out embed codes that we can post it here for your viewing pleasure. If you haven't seen the film, you can still watch it. It is spoiler free in all respects, as the real ending is miles away from this one. Watch, enjoy, and be grateful for what might have been.

It does seem to be added on as an extra for the dvd and likely was not considered for the actual ending. His left hand reaches out to grab James Franco's hand after they are shot so I assume you meant stage left and not his left hand.

Oh c'mon its obviously a gag. Look at the background, definitely computer generated. Its not a "real" alternative ending, and I doubt they considered ending it with a shot that would make no sense in the context of the movie. Obviously an extra gag for the dvd.

I was hoping that the big fight scene at the end would end with the cast deciding to work out their problems by smoking joints together instead of through violence. Alas.

I don't know if that's real, but the holding of the hands is a reference to Breaker Morant

It would have been a lot better with an entirely different last 40 minutes!

Man, this movie was extremely non-funny. I laughed out loud one time (It means I'm extremely aerodynamic when I fight) but other than that thought it was pretty terrible. Wasted a fun idea and the brilliant casting of James Franco.
