Bill Hader Wrote a Slasher for Judd Apatow

We always leave the horror stories for our grand master, Scott Weinberg, but since he's having a grand old time at Sundance it falls to the rest of the crew to keep the horror fans updated. But honestly, this sounds like the kind of slasher flick that even the squeamish can get behind.Devin Faraci of CHUD caught up with Bill Hader at Sundance, where Hader revealed that he and Saturday Night Live writer Simon Rich have scripted a horror film for director Judd Apatow, though its status is sketchy. "I don't know if it's even going to get made. Judd met with us and said 'I want to do a horror movie with you. I want to see you in a slasher movie.'"
Hader was tight-lipped on the finer story points, but revealed that it would be a horror comedy that would manage the delicate balance between Michael Myers and Macaulay Culkin. "It's partially Straw Dogs meets Halloween meets Home Alone meets Monster Squad ... It is definitely about guys nowadays, that idea that you watch fucked up shit on TV, how violence in our culture - this sounds really hoity toity - you watch f***ed up reality shows, I love true crime shows. The idea of that thing coming to your house, and what do you do? I would shit my pants. That's basically what the movie is about. What if that guy decided to come to your house? What would you and your dipshit friends do about it?" Now that he's gone and teased us, I want Apatow to commit to Hader, and show us what his brand of horror would be like, don't you?

Bill Hader is unbelievably funny in every role he plays. I have no doubt this would be at least a cult classic.

Bill Hader, Monster Squad, Apatow, Comedy, and Horror all in one convenient package?
I'm already ready to buy a ticket.

I think it's a very misguided decision. It's what I like to refer to as "James Cameroning" where you gain the ability to do whatever you want with any studio backing you because of your past success that you literally have no restrictions and no one telling you "that might not be the best idea." Comedy Horrors almost never work, with the exception of select few (as opposed to Horror Comedies, which is just a matter of where the main genre emphasis is placed.)
I'm always for artists breaking out of their molds, but I really don't think it's a good direction. Pineapple Express was humorous and successful enough, but wasn't stellar, and I feel like it'll be stepping out of their hot zone. I actually think it's more feasible to see them do a true crime drama or based on true story before a slasher film.
My personal thoughts at least, take it for what it's worth.
