'The Shadow' Might Not Go Solo

Our search engine and Google refuse to provide me with our last update on the return of The Shadow (I know one was published in the last month or so!) but I am sure you remember that Sam Raimi acquired the rights to The Street and Smith Roster of pulp heroes, and has been working to bring a new adaptation of The Shadow to the big screen for a few years now.MTV's Splash Page caught up with Michael Uslan for an update on the project. Uslan has promised that the latest version would be a brand new take on the character -- and Uslan's cryptic description might leave visions of The Spirit dancing in your heads. "I think the one thing going in is we all see The Shadow as more of a force of nature than a specific person in a secret identity. The Shadow may actually be many people." But they're also doing the proper research to stay true to the character. "We've gone back to the pulp roots, the comic book roots of The Shadow, with a dash of the radio roots. But we've deeply ensconced ourselves in the world of pulps and comics."
It's intriguing, but what it all means is anyone's guess -- but we all trust in Raimi, so you'll have to hold onto that as you wait for this new version to hit the big screen ... which doesn't sound to be in the near future. "Sam [Raimi] and Josh Donen are my partners and we have it set up Sony, and a wonderful writer named Siavash Farahani who has worked for me before is writing the screenplay. It's coming along great, we're very excited about it. You know, it takes time to nurture these things. You probably know all the stories. The first Batman film took me 10 years to get made."
* And is it just me -- or does that illustration of the Shadow look like every photo of Frank Miller you've ever seen?

Totally true about the picture. Frank Miller is a creepy looking guy. As for the Shadow, I was still somewhat young when the Alec Baldwin movie came out, but I loved that film. They started playing it on Encore the last few months, and when I throw it on now I can tell its not a great movie, but I can't help but enjoy it. I'd love to see another made.

Finally, someone who remembers THE SHADOW. In truth the Howard Chakin graphic novel had the Shadow resembling Harlan Ellison and if memory serves it Alec Baldwin said Billy looks the Shadow (hmmm?) I too loved the film and am sorry not more people paid attention to it.
How about John Barrowman (Torchwood) as Lamont Cranston ? Looks good in a tux.

I know Uslan is all behind the Batman movies and everything, but maybe he should stay away from the genre for a while. Lest we forget, he was the mastermind behind the whole Frank Miller-The Spirit thing and look how that turned out.
And I agree about the original Shadow movie. It was a lot of fun, and very pulpy. Like The Rocketeer and a lesser Dick Tracy.
