Orlando Bloom and Laura Linney are 'Delicious'
Don't worry, this isn't about some lust-filled obsession with pirates and Abigail Adams. You might remember that back in August, word hit that Mark Ruffalo was gearing up for his directorial debut, Sympathy for Delicious. At the time, Ruffalo and screenwriter Chris Thornton were set to star alongside James Franco. However, after the loss of Ruffalo's brother last month, the project was put on hold. But now Delicious is back on, Franco is out, and The Hollywood Reporter posts that Orlando Bloom (Franco's replacement) and Laura Linney are in. The film focuses on a paralyzed DJ (Thornton) trying to survive on the streets of Los Angeles when he develops the ability to cure the sick -- but only other people, not himself. He starts to cash in on his new talents, and finds himself between a Jesuit priest (Ruffalo) who tries to help him, and the lead of a "tough as nails" band (Bloom) who wants to exploit him. Linney is playing the band's manager.
Man ... Orlando Bloom as an uber-tough rock star. That is something I just can't imagine. Is Bloom a good replacement for Franco? Can Orlando pull off the "tough as nails" image? Any bets on the likelihood of "Sympathy for the Devil" being on the soundtrack? Weigh in below!

No. I didn't know much about the project until now, but I would almost certainly always take Franco over Bloom. But who knows, maybe he'll surprise us.

Take a look at the VMan 2007 photos. Yeah, he'll have no problem with the rock star role. Hard as nails? He's a classically trained actor. He'll work on it 'til he gets it right.
He's not responsible, however, for people's preconceptions of him.

Very well said, Ellen_Armstrong!
My opinion is that Orlando Bloom is a wonderful actor. He proved by his work every time that he has the genuine talent and the highly trained professional skills. He can do things that not many actors can nowadays.

Orlando Bloom will surprise you. He is not the sum of his previous roles. Now that he is breaking out of that mold, you'll see that he can do more.

Wheres the basis in the belief that Bloom can play more than one note in a movie? I'm not saying that he can't, and I certainly wish the guy the best, but I don't see any evidence of him having talent based on his other roles.

And which roles are you basing your opinion on? Have you seen the extended version of Kingdom of Heaven..and how about the indie film, Haven...whoa! I think his portrayal of an elf was spot on as described in Tolkien; his Paris in Troy was excatly as written in Homer; Orlando was halarious in The Calcium Kid. And he received very good reviews when he performed on stage in the summer of 07. I suspect most of the negative commentors have not seen the whole of Orlando's work.

Not the whole, just the majority. Yes, I've seen the ExV of KoH, and just cause the role of Legolas called for "expressionless pretty boy whispers every word" doesn't mean he's a good actor for being able to pull off the role. His Paris was absolutely terrible. As for some movies you don't mention, he played the same one note character in all three PotC movies (pouty pretty boy), and was pathetic in the Aussie pic Ned Kelly. He was okay in Haven, and I haven't seen The Calcium Kid. So yeah, he can go from poor, to average the vast majority of the time (emphasis on poor), and unless he was Oscar Worthy in TCK then I'll stand by that assessment. I suspect that majority of positive commentors do so because of how damn good looking he is :)

Orlando Bloom will do great. Elizabethtown and Kingdom of Heaven were under rated. He is trying to shake off the young heart throb image and go for the more challenging rolls. It doesn't hurt that he is still gorgeous and he does have talent.

Orlando's Legolas is perfect. The role demanded more than you are saying. Exactly because he didn't have much lines. It demanded precision. He created the great character with his acting. Expressionless? - No way! Everything is in his eyes and in body language - one of the strongest parts of his acting. You just need to learn how to read it. Though Troy as a movie is weak, Paris was straight to the point that the role demanded. His fight with Menelaus is one of the best created on screen.
I believe people in pro filed who nominated OB for his work in Ned Kelly didn't use just "handsome guy" criteria. He is very good in Ned Kelly. And, he is very respectful towards his fellow actors (Heath Ledger in particular) in his style of acting - the rare quality in actors in general.
Haven: only the scene when he points the gun at his enemy/ brother of the girl he loves - deserves the professional award. I'm not talking about Oscar - this "award" lost my respect many years ago. I'm talking about some real professional award.
Liked him a lot in Calcium Kid. His character in Extras was absolutely hilarious - thanks to Orlando's sense of humor and irony.
Will Turner - one of the best "Good Guy" characters created on screen. Balian is very deep, sincere and strong character that concentrates the whole philosophy and psychological ingredient of the movie. Will, Legolas and, I think, Balian came to stay for a while. (Remember my words in 10 years, :).
Yes, he is very handsome man but, the pro criterion for evaluating any actor’s acting exists. From this point I can honestly say that Orlando Bloom is very talented and very professional actor. I hope we will see him more on screen.
