Is 'The Green Hornet' Dead Again?

Seth Rogen's revival of The Green Hornet may not see the light of day. You remember, of course, that Stephen Chow left the director's chair. It was then rumored that he might not even play Kato due to commitments to a Jack Black superhero comedy. Sony was hunting frantically for a director to make that spring shooting schedule, but no replacement has been found. Now the usually reliable Drew McWeeny of HitFix is reporting what we have long suspected -- that you may be hearing the death knell of the Green Hornet. With Chow dropping out, Sony began to hesitate. Rumors flew at Sundance that the film was dead and McWeeny reports that if it isn't yet, it probably will be soon.
The Green Hornet has been in and out of development for years. George Clooney famously headed up one almost-but-not-quite attempt, as did Kevin Smith. McWeeney notes that "if this particular configuration doesn't happen, then I suspect it never will," which I have to agree with. If Rogen fails, he can at least take some pride that Clooney and Smith failed before him ... but it has to sting (pun not intended), especially after all that physical training he's put in. We'll watch and see what happens -- and I'll be curious if there's more cheering or weeping in the comments.

I hope this is true and this version is dead. I love the Green Hornet and after what was done to The Spirit I was dreading what was being planned for Green Hornet. Heck I was concerned the minute Rogen's name had been attached. Sorry I'm just not a fan of his. Put me in the cheering section on this one.

Great news, I was devastated that such a cool show, at least from my generational perspective, would wind up a mockery. Maybe one day we will get to see a cool, realistic GH.

I have to agree with all the above. This comes as a huge relief. I never wanted to see this version made and never could wrap my head around Rogen as the star. I always saw the show as very cool not comic and feared it would be reduced to nothing but a string of bad jokes.

I was devastated as soon as I heard Stephen Chow wasn't going to direct. Is that the real reason why?..a Jack Black superhero comedy, really?!?!? I was still happy to hear he will play Kato though, but not as happy as before.
Basically as long as Stephen Chow was playing Kato and was still directing this I wanted to see it made! It was a perfect fit, but unfortunately it seemed too good to be true.
If Stephen is not a part of this, then kill it, quick, before anyone else can make it.
