Joe Carnahan Zeroes in on 'The A-Team'
Filed under: Action, Deals, Remakes and Sequels
Things didn't look good for that big-screen version of The A-Team back in October when even more rewrites were being planned and John Singleton had backed out as director due to casting issues. But now things are back on track, and maybe this time we'll get beyond the directorial phase as The Hollywood Reporter posts that Smokin' Joe Carnahan is in negotiations to helm the feature. As THR notes, Carnahan's schedule lightened up a whole bunch after White Jazz ran into money and casting issues, and Reese Witherspoon dropped out of Bunny Lake is Missing. So either this is the break in his bad luck, or yet another example of how doomed this project is.
As director, I'm sure he'll do fine, but as always, this all comes down to the cast. As much as I love George Peppard, Dwight Schultz, and Dirk Benedict, their roles are fairly replaceable -- there are many actors in Hollywood who can look slick chewing a cigar while cooking up schemes, be wacky, or a slick and sexy con man. But Bad Attitude Baracus, Mr. T, he's pretty much impossible to replace. Go for someone who makes the character completely different, then it's simply not the A-Team. Get someone who channels Mr. T's pity-the-foo quirks, and they'll never live up to the icon.
I say: Let Mr. T continue to be B.A., and then look towards some new talent. Any ideas?

George Clooney would make a great Hannibal - he even ooks a little like George Peppard. Other than that, I don't know.

Sadly, I have given this a great deal of thought over the course of several years. And that is how I have managed to cull together the ultimate cast.
Hannibal: Gene Hackman, I can see him with the cigar already
Face: Jason Lee
Murdock: Bruce Campbell
and I never found it in me to replace Mr. T, so I won't.

Bruce Campbell would be good, but he's too old now.
Jason Lee would make a good Murdock though. But not Face.

I would love to see Mr. T back as BA. Nobody else will be able to as good as a job as he can. I have Mr. T as the voice on my GPS. I got it from a site called Navtones and I love going for a drive having Mr. T telling me where to go. Bring back Mr. T!

Mel Gibson has Hannibal, but that's almost type-casting.
I also agree with earlier statements that Ice-Cube could pull of Mr T. At this point, i think he could do a better Mr T than Mr T could, but certainly could do a better B.A. Baracus. He'd also fit in the budget this movie will certainly have (if they bring in Mel Gibson or George Clooney for Hannibal like they should.)
For the others...
Brad Pitt would make a great Face, but he'd never do it and they couldn't afford him. More reasonable might be...hum...that's harder. Maybe Brenden Frasier?
Sam Rockwell would be an awesome Murdock. End of discussion there.

I agree that Clooney would be the best Hanibel, as far as Face how about Matt Damon he can pull it off nicely, for Murdock after reading some of theese I think I could see Jason Lee but this role is best for a true funny man a few years ago I would've said Jim Carrey but not now maybe Steve Carrel. As far as BA goes the ting about that character was he was a big black guy that you wouldn't want to mess with and I can think of some one from this generation that fits that perfectly Michael Clarke Duncan I think he could fill the shoes nicely.

drum roll please!! (brrrrrrrrrrr)
the best choice for BA is......
Michael Clarke Duncan. slap a mohawk on his head and some gold around his neck and boom, you got BA... if you want to abandon that look that is cool to, he has a look too.
