Fan Rant: (Not) Watching the 'Transformers 2' Trailer Online

So the good news is that shortly following the Superbowl commercial for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, all of us will then be able to rush over to our computers and watch it again online (according to Michael Bay, that is). In a new message over on his blog, Bay says this of the much-anticipated premiere: "The Super Bowl spot is coming Sunday in the third Quarter (few minutes into the quarter slot). The spot will be online a few minutes after that - The full length teaser trailer will only be on Friday the Thirteenth. It will not hit the internet until a week later. The Teaser really only teases stuff - I'm holding so much stuff back from the final trailers because I personally hate going to movies where you have seen it all." God, it's like reading from a third-graders fanboy journal. But anyway ...
... aside from the fact that a producer screws up his own film's title (it's Friday the 13th, not Thirteenth), did you see the part when he says -- and I quote -- "It will not hit the internet until a week later." No, not the Superbowl ad; he's talking about the teaser trailer in front of Friday the 13th that, for whatever stupid corporate reason, they're holding for ONE WHOLE WEEK before putting it online. Guess what that means, folks. Yup, YouTube. This site, along with several others, will be forced to chuck up some cruddy bootlegged version of the Transformers 2 teaser so that our readers (aka you) are satisfied.
Sure, chances are the teaser will be some short boring affair as is (since Bay doesn't want to spoil anything up front), but I can't stand this tactic -- this holding it from the online audience for a whole week while we fight to discover the cleanest bootleg on YouTube. Is this really how Michael Bay wants us to watch his first teaser trailer? Because wayyy more people are going to watch it on YouTube than in front of Friday the 13th. Seriously, Bay, there's no reason why this teaser shouldn't be online Monday morning, first thing, for those fans who couldn't make it to the theater over the weekend.
But since you're making us wait a whole week to see it, I suppose you'd rather us watch the crummy, bootlegged version. I guess that's how you want most of the world to view the first teaser for your beloved robots-kicking-ass sequel. And if that's the case, so be it. We'll all happily oblige.

What are you complaining about? We have all seen that trailer already. Here's the description: Flashes of a few seconds of the Bufster leading a normal life, hot chick, more normal life, cool cars drive by...darkness, letters that read the maker's name and something like "we thought the war was over...". Impressive background sound of arriving evil doers, we see one, real quick, just a glimpse, not the whole thing, wouldn't wanna spoil it! Maybe a red eye. A pyramid, a secret turd they have to find. Fade in, fade out images of explosions, jumps, explosions, more explosions, hot chick again, sounds of giant robots shifting shape, another explosion, the Bufster' s face goin whaaat da is happening to me? One more explosion, this one ten times bigger, clif hanger and the cheezy off voice saying "Transformers: revenge of the fallen", when it comes out, END.

So you have to wait a week. You're seriously complaining about this? Who cares? You've JUST seen it, you don't need to see it again right away, especially if it's just a teaser which will likely have no real footage in it. And yes YouTube will have a lot of bootleg copies that some kid recorded on his cell phone but they should be able to hold you over for a week. What annoys me more are the stupid "fan made" trailers that infest YouTube, and they have nothing to do with Michael Bay or anyone that you're ranting against.

Yes, I'm seriously complaining about this. Look, I could care less about the Transformers sequel trailer, but we have this convo all the time offline among editors, and I think it's utterly ridiculous to launch a trailer in theaters and then wait a week to debut it online and let all these shoddy bootleg versions represent your film. It has nothing to do with me wanting or not wanting to see the trailer, and everything to do with poor practices on their part.

Has it crossed no one's mind that the reason they're doing this is that they are trying to get more people to go see Friday the 13th. They figure if the trailer for Transformers isn't available online, that will somehow kick up the gross on what is (sadly) probably going to to be yet another horrible retread. It's a business strategy... and not even a very well hidden one. It's like, "Oh, that Michael Bay... he's being so nice to the fans by not spoiling anything." No. No, that's not what he's doing. He's trying to help his other bastard step-child of a production make more money. It's pretty simple. It has nothing to do with YouTube or how these people want their film 'represented'. Honestly, they probably don't care. One of these movies is going to make a ton of cash either way... the other... could use all the help it can get.

I just wanted to make a note that the other Dan...whose bitching up there, is not me. I'd hate to cause any confusion, since I'm on the other side of the argument, with Davis.

I think it's funny Michael Bay thinks anyone gives a shit about this movie. Transformers is not about plot, characters, or anything plausible. Just shape-shifting robots, show them in your trailer and shut the hell up.
