Johnny Depp to Star in 'Three Stooges' Remake?

Ladies and gentlemen, may I now present you with the most horrific rumor of the day -- that, according to those super sleuths over at In Touch magazine, Johnny Depp's name is at the top of the list to star in a new Three Stooges film directed by The Farrelly Brothers. And if that's not asinine enough for you, they also note that Sean Penn could join him. Yup. An "insider" says, "They want Johnny to play Moe and Sean Penn will be Larry -- they're still looking to cast Curly." OH, I have an idea for Curly -- how about Frank Langella ... while we're being absurd and unrealistic here.
I can't imagine there being any truth to this rumor -- although stranger things have happened, and Depp certainly knows how to play up the kooky, doofus roles (see: Pirates of the Caribbean). But Sean Penn? I'm sure he'd rather stab himself through the brain with a shotgun smeared in elephant dung ... unless he'd be doing this one "for his kids." This does bring up a good question for you folks, though: Who do you cast in the iconic roles of Moe, Larry and Curly in a 2009 Three Stooges flick? The easy answer, of course, is no one (as in leave the Three Stooges alone), but since they're obviously keen on bringing these characters back to the big screen, who could you see starring?

first of all what the hell is wrong with johhny depp and sean penn as being apart of the three stooges? theyre actors theyre supposed to be playing different parts then theyre used to. And how do you know sean penn is going to "stab himself"as if your great friends with him and know what he feels. hes getting money for this and a lot of it. i highly doubt he would comit suicide for probably well over 1 million dollars. I dont understand why people care so much that theyre making a new three stooges. I guarantee everyone that says its stupid will be right in the theatre seats opening day and will probably think its hilarious. btw theyre not rumors about johhny depp and sean penn its true i researched it so get over it. And if its true that kevin James might be curly then I think that would just put the finishing touches to this movie which I think is going to be great.

The entire concept behind this movie is horrific, BUT - if Johnny Depp is in it, playing a stooge, I will be there opening night. That would be far too absurd to miss.

Someone asked Bruce Campbell about a 3 Stooges flick at one of the screenings for They Call Me Bruce.
He (well, everyone really) responded with the expected scorn until the questioner alleged that "they" were trying to get Russell Crow on board. A very WTF moment.

Funny, as soon as I read Depp, I said "As Moe", and when Penn came up, "As Larry."
Jason Statham as Curly.
Strangely enough, this could work (except Statham) if it wasn't done as a Stooges remake, but as a Stooges biopic... you know, where actual acting would be required instead of mugging and slapstick (because whoever does this remake will completely miss the talent the Stooges had).

Good for you Scott! You tell em! I had to tell some teenage girls to STFU at a screening of 'Twilight' that my fiance forced me to go to. I wasn't happy to be there, the least I could do was watch the movie in peace. They kept talking through the movie, until half way through when I "shooshed" them, then they "shooshed" ME back. That's when I said "Listen, you guys need to be quiet, or you'll have to leave". Then I didn't really hear a peep from them for the rest of the movie. You just really need to let them know of the consequences. Most of the theaters around here ( D.C. / Virginia) actually have officers from the Sheriff's department on guard at the theaters to deal with this very same issue.
