Will Cate Blanchett Save 'Nottingham'?
Filed under: Action, Casting, RumorMonger, Celebrities and Controversy
Does it make me a bad person that I couldn't have been happier when Sienna Miller and Nottingham decided to go their separate ways? Nothing personal, but I wasn't envisioning Miller fairing too well up against a dramatic heavy like Russell Crowe. Luckily, for those of out there who still think that Nottingham has a chance of being a darn good flick, there is a light on the horizon and her name is Cate Blanchett. During an event for the London Film Critics' Circle Awards, newly arrived Nottingham cast member, Mark Strong told the UK Telegraph, "I think Cate Blanchett is set to take the Maid Marian part," Strong went on to sing the praises of the Aussie actress and told the Telegraph, "She is a wonderful actress and it would make it a much classier film if she was in it." -- Amen to that brother. For those of you who haven't been following the travails of Scott's Robin Hood update, here is a quick little primer: First up were those bogus script reports that made Crowe's choice of dual roles sound like a bad episode of The Bobbsey Twins. But the hits kept coming, and next up was a shutdown on the set, unflattering stories that Crowe and Scott were at each other's throat, and finally Sienna Miller got the old heave-ho thanks to Crowe's so-called "gross" appearance, or her bad acting (depending on who you believe) -- not exactly the kind of anecdotes you want to end up on the DVD commentary.
But, the optimist in me wants to believe that Nottingham's troubles are in the past, and if Blanchett is on board, Crowe will be getting a Maid Marian that can stand her ground. The Oscar-winning actress has already lined up three other projects for 2009, with The Fantastic Mr. Fox slated next, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she can find some time in her busy schedule to swing by Sherwood Forest.
Stay tuned to Cinematical for the official word, and Nottingham (with or without Ms. Blanchett) will arrive in theaters in 2010.

First off, the rumors are rift that it was Miller's reps who fed the gossip columns, trying to deflect blame off her for getting dumped... but yes, she was let go... she didn't walk away from such a major film voluntarily.
Crowe is looking fit and trim these days, so one can judge the veracity of the Miller rumors for themselves.
Crowe and Scott may argue, but there were a lot of factors at work before getting Nottingham into shooting shape, not the least of which was that it was originally to begin when there was danger of a SAG strike interrupting the shoot. Then there were needed script revisions and weather concerns.
Everything looks ready to roll in the next month or two, and if Cate is on board, I'll have to agree that she brings a lot of class and is a much better fit talent-wise performing opposite Crowe. I can't wait.

1) Cate Blanchett is miscast as Marian
2) People who judge an actress according to whom she sleeps with, annoy me to no end. Remove that stick from up your butts guys...You'll walk better. That's all.

I don't care who she sleeps with either but to me she is not a good actress average maybe but no way the same calibra as Cate Blanchett and I personally don't like her either , no character no class and no morals and you are right who she sleeps with does not matter until she sleeps with your partner.

May the rumor turns out to be TRUE!! If Cate Blanchett says YES to "Maid Marion", I'll be jumping with joy! :) I watched The Curious Case of Benjamin Button recently, Cate's performance left a deep impression on me than Brad's. After seeing her other great acting in Elizabeth and The Aviator, my fandom towards her is sealed forever! She truly is one of the best actresses in the world right now.
Sorry, I don't care about Sienna's personal reputation, but it's better she's out because I don't see her having the same calibre as Crowe. My dream would come true to see Crowe and Blanchett on the same screen. Wooohooo!! Nottingham would be a golden project in my book.
