Scenes We Love: The House of Yes
Filed under: Comedy, Independent, Trailers and Clips, Scenes We Love

If news broke today that Tori Spelling, Freddie Prinze Jr., Rachael Leigh Cook, Genevieve Bujold, Josh Hamilton, and Parker Posey were going to star in a movie together, it probably wouldn't be something anyone would get excited about, or yearn to see. It also wouldn't seem believable that they would come together for a darkly comedic story rife with word play ... if it didn't already happen in 1997.
A strange anomaly in the cinematic world, The House of Yes was the film that made the best of everyone -- the rare example that some chastised stars could offer more than the usual easily forgotten fare. Spelling shrugged off her Donna Martin image to play the girl who grew up on pancakes, and Prinze Jr. even managed a difficult balance of innocent newbie and nuanced man with a plan.
While I fell in love with the film from moment one, it was the below scene that stole my heart -- rolling and carefully plotted banter that makes words into a dance. Kick back with a glass of Liebfraumilch and enjoy!
Trivia: MacLeod got the name of the play/film from bathroom stall graffiti.

I love this film. Parker Posey is so great in it, but a film where Tori Spelling is even great should be seen by all!

I can quote almost all of this movie--I just played the clip and said everyone's lines, still loving and remembering how great this scene was. The movie's still one of my favorites.

Circa 1997, my college house full o' "Kicking and Screaming" fans was way excited for this, but it was a bit of a letdown...maybe time has treated it well.
