Trailer Park: Report on Those Solo Basterds

Filed under: Action, Comedy, Documentary, Drama, Trailer Trash

Observe and Report
Mall cop comedies are like buses. You don't see one for what seems like forever and then two show up at the same time. Paul Blart has been making money hand over fist, so will this fairly limited genre be able to support this new Seth Rogen flick as well? Rogen plays the head of mall security who dreams of being a cop and getting the attention of a hot makeup sales clerk (Anna Faris). He gets his chance to do both when his shopping center is plagued by a flasher and Rogen's character means to bring him in by whatever means necessary. Rogen looks like he's at the top of his game here. If nothing else, this red band trailer should remind you of the importance of being minty fresh in intimate situations.

Inglourious Basterds
"A basterd's work is never done," we are told here. At last we've got a teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino's new war flick. The basterds in question are a group of U.S. soldiers led by Brad Pitt who are going to parachute behind enemy lines in Nazi-occupied France and kill Nazis. It's a motley crew indeed (isn't that the kid from Not Another Teen Movie, and that guy from The Office?). I'd be more stoked for this one if Tarantino's last movie hadn't been so damn chatty, but I still have high hopes for this one.
Ballast
The trailer for this indie drama has almost no dialogue and spends its time telling how awesome the critics think it is without really telling us much about the movie itself. Here's what Cinematical's own James Rocchi thought of the film.

Sin Nombre
This story of a Honduran teenager's journey through Mexico in hopes of entering the United States was dubbed by Erik Davis as "One of the more fascinating and gut-wrenching films" at Sundance this year. Again this is one of those trailers that doesn't give you a lot to go on plotwise, but it's got some fascinating imagery. You can read Erik's full review here.

The Education of Charlie Banks
Directed by Limp Biskit's Fred Durst, this is a coming of age story set during the 1980s. A college student finds that his high school bully has shown up on his doorstep wanting to be friends. Looks potentially dark and fascinating.

The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3
Tony Scott directs this remake of a 1974 film with John Travolta and Denzel Washington in the leads. Travolta plays a sweathog gone bad when he takes a New York City subway car hostage. Not sure if anything new can be done with a hostage drama, but these two actors may wring something new out of the idea.

Goodbye Solo
The long awaited romantic tragedy in which Chewbacca finally dumps Han Solo? Not quite. This is a story of unlikely friendship between a Senegalese cab driver and an older southern good old boy. Check here for Kim Voynar's review.
