First Trailer for 'Descent 2' Looks ... Actually Kinda Promising
Filed under: Horror, Lionsgate Films, Remakes and Sequels
Right off the bat, it should be noted: Neil Marshall did not direct the sequel. That's not to say anything nasty or negative about The Descent: Part 2, but if you're looking for a reason to whine about how "It'll never be as good as the first one," then there you go.Beyond that, however, my anticipation of this sequel just got elevated by
Based only on the promo clip. it sure looks like The Descent was A L I E N, and The Descent: Part 2 is Aliens. Poor Sarah (Shauna McDonald) is accused of maybe killing all her friends, and so she must delve deep into the abyss once again ... with a whole bunch of new people. Some are even men! Needless to say, carnage ensues.
According to Bloody-D (and thanks for the clip!), the sequel will make its UK debut in mid-March. No word yet on when Lionsgate will unleash the flick stateside, but obviously I'll let you know when I know. "Back into the cave" seems a pretty obvious place for this sequel to go, but I'd be lying if I said the trailer wasn't surprisingly solid. I suspect Jessica B. would agree, as she's been covering Part 2 for a while now.

Man, that looks considerably better now that Neil Marshall isn't directing.

Pretty good trailer, though obviously not the final cut. I like how much red stuff I see squirting.
F the people who say that Scott. I'm so tired of people. If you have nothing better to do than exclaim that everything isn't as good as the original, do it in your head. No one else wants to hear that crap. You're saying nothing new.

No, they're right.
This will never be as good as the original considering the original is not good at all.

Nah, I'm with MCW on this one. I think this looks pretty damn good. I'll totally buy into it being comparable to Aliens vs Alien. I'll be seeing it.

Only problem is that it follows the "US ending" where Sarah escapes at the end rather than the original ending where Sarah has descended into total madness and seems to have settled in for her fate.
But I guess it is the best way for a sequel to work. I have read the script and there is no explanation for how Sarah got out so I guess that Neil Marshall (who did not direct but I assume has produced?) seems happy enough to forget the original ending and just go with the made for US audiences ending.

Well, the UK ending doesn't say that Sarah never gets out. It only ends with her coming to in the cave. It's a bit of a fanwank, but it's certainly possible that she does escape.

Well sequel wise there really isn't much they could have done with the UK ending. They'd have to bring a bunch of other people into the mix and like..it would be the same movie with differnt people. By using the US ending, it can actually have a sequel. Personally I think this looks like a good addition, I loved the first one.

I think this one has to be at least equal to the first, as the first one is one of the worst horror movies I have ever seen. When I saw part 1 I was convinced that Neil Marshall was an absolute hack director (as the film looks like it was shot by a first year film student), but then when I saw Doomsday I realized this was not the case. Perhaps the editor was to blame for some of the issues, but the film ended being a cliche ridden piece of poo.
Here's hoping part 2 surpasses the first.
