UPDATED: Check out the new full-length trailer below or over at Yahoo Movies ...
Although the first flick has grown on me a little bit since I first saw it last summer, I still think the main problem with Michael Bay's Transformers is a big one: The script. Like, virtually all of it. When the movie sticks to the pretty visuals and dazzling mayhem, I'm fine ... which is probably why I don't have any problems with this brand-new trailer for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
While scanning through the T2: ROTF page at IMDb, I noticed two new additions that have me intrigued: One is cast member Rainn Wilson, and I think that guy's really funny. The other was screenwriter Ehren Kruger, which sort of explains why this trailer has a slight "horror flick" vibe to it.
I open the floor to reactions! I'd like to get one from a guy who LOVED the first flick but think this trailer SUCKS, and one from somebody who skipped Transformers, but will DEFINITELY see this one.

The script was no worse than 95% of the films from Hollywood. All of spielberg's films of the last 20 years - with the exception of Munich - have been just as simple.

Well no, the script was much much worse than the bulk of movies out there. Some BS about chasing a cube and some dead guy's glasses or something. Just awful.
The eye candy was top notch without a doubt, but that candy was held together with some really wretched crap.

I concur (if the spelling is wrong, blame it on me being in a foreign country for the last year and a half, speaking nothing but the local language).
Seriously, I say the first Transformers movie was the greatest and most cunning trick to mankind since the Adam and Eve. The script was ridiculously laughable, the actors were exceptionally poor, and the amount of screen time for the Transformers vs. Shia Lebouf getting pantsed were tremendously unsatisfying.
This one will be a great sequel, because it will fail just the same and gain just the same heap of money.

Everything about T1 sucked but Turturro made it to the number one most ridiculous acting in history. If you payed to see a movie and found it sucked and are willing to go pay for part two, then you deserve to see bad movies forever. I ain't paying to watch this turd

I think we need to remember this was a movie about giant robots blowing stuff up. Did it cover that? Yes. Then it was a success for what it intended to be.
Not everything has to be a Film or Great Art. Sometimes, movies can be fun and stupid.
Just got to set your expectations accordingly.

No, not everything has to a Film or Great Art, that doesn't mean we can't help but be disappointed that it COULD be a whole lot better. Imagine if Transformers was directed by James Cameron - someone who can actually shoot coherent hardware-heavy action scenes - it woulda been fun and stupid but actually well-made and watchable as well. Only an idiot like Bay would shoot transformations from the CENTRE of the transformation -where we can't see shit - and then PULL OUT, depriving us of actually seeing the transformation in a wide shot. That said, Revenge of the Fallen, holy moly.

Ah, but, so many things could be better, enjoying that conversation as an intellectual exercise is all well and good; seems to be moving past enjoying what is actually there.

Has anyone actually read the script to the first movie?
It's not like they, you know, used it.
90% of that movie was improv'ed. To my knowledge, they didn't even write the robot parts in until after the live action shooting was complete. Watch Sam when he's shouting at Prime from his bedroom window....if you don't shift your attention to Prime when he starts talking, you can clearly see Sam continuing to talk to him.
And it's also my understanding that they did the same thing for this one.
That being said.....I came out of the theater with a huge smile on my face after seeing that movie. It could have been much worse. I could have come out of the theater trying to think of a reason to smile, like when I walked out after seeing Episode I for the first time.

I guess I'll be your "Loved the first one but thinks this trailer sucks" guy. I'm not saying that I don't think the movies gonna be the same mind numbingly awesome 2 hours the first one was, but this trailer just doesn't do anything for me. Poor pacing throughout, and it just doesn't get you pumped up the way I remember the trailer for the first one did.

I thought the first one was pretty bad, despite supposedly everyone on the planet thinking it's the greatest thing ever.
Did it accomplish explosions, and robots, and mindless action with a really bad story, yes, suppose they got the right man for that job (Bay).
Looking at the new trailer, looks like more of the same. More garbage that everyone right and left is going to go bonkers for.
Megan fox was the best part of the first one, and I can't say I'll see the 2nd one even though she's in it, but so is Jonah Hill, I hate that guy.

I love an intellectual film just as much as the next person, but c'mon people! Did you really expect a movie based on a cartoon based on a friggin' toy to have any sense of an intricate and complex story? Sure, it would be nice to see James Cameron make Transformers, but we all know that would never happen.
And you all are right, the writing and acting were beyond terrible, but what the hell did it matter? We got to see cars, trucks, and planes realistically transform into robots that blow shit up. And yes, Bay did make some poor choices with shots, but you also have to remember that the budget was far more limited than a movie like this generally gets. They only had so much money to spend on visual effects, so shot selection was key.
I generally don't give a pass to big, dumb movies, but Transformers just worked. I bought into the spectacle, and I am gladly buying into the second one. I mean, seriously, Michael Bay chose to include The Fallen as the main villain! If Bay actually uses even just some parts of The Fallen's original history, I will be beyond happy.

I don't care about the script. Michael Bay makes me want to puke. His directing screams, "Hey, look how much of a budget I have! I can make my camera do crazy shit for no apparent reason and nobody, not even my decent-direction executive producer, will stop me."
But it has a ton of explosions, so I guarantee most of my friends will love it.
I, however, will not be attending this one.
