'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' Television Spot #2

The second X-Men Origins: Wolverine spot has aired, and if you want to steer clear of spoilers, don't watch. Given that the film supposedly runs well under 2 hours, these 3 minute spots may just leave us little to see on May 1.
They're definitely giving Wolverine a whole new origin with this film -- as loyal fangirl, I'm of mixed opinion on that. The logical side says that his comic origin has become too cluttered and convoluted to every put onscreen, and that cherry-picking the best origin stories is the ideal solution. But of all the stories to cement, why choose Wolverine's aristocratic background? Of all the things to change, why alter his connection to Sabretooth and participation in Weapon X? (I know what they said in X2 -- and I maintain that they should have just kept that as a nasty little lie from William Stryker.)
However, it looks like they are making a tidier resolution of the Team X storylines, and I'm digging all the war and romance. Poor, poor Silver Fox.

Hell, when you consider Wolverine is about 5' tall in the comics, Storm is 6'2" in the comics and Colossus had a Russian accent, I guess it's to be expected.
Why does Marvel hate the XMen? To kill Professor X. Rogue doesn't fly. The angst is barely there. The serious drama is AWOL. The near-deaths, nope. I would like to have seen the Brood or The HellFire Club. Maybe they will have The Wendigo in Wolverine or at least a member or two of Alpha Flight. Movies with flying supes are the best, though so they have a lot of work to match Iron Man.

Now it's been a long while since I've read comics (let alone X-Men), I thought that Wolverine grew those bone claws after Magneto zapped out his adamantium? Are they just giving him the bone claws as a child to make the story interesting? Because I saw those bone claws come out and had a massive eye roll. But, maybe I'm in the wrong!

Those bones claws are in the comic books Origin.. Wolverine had those since the begining, they are just covered with adamantium after the experiment.

Sad I remember this, but the early '90's was when I was into comics: Basically, in Wolverine #75, Magneto did pull all the adamantium from Logan's body through his pores. After that came the bone claws. The implications were that he has always had them and the fusing of the adamantium during Weapon X were the "trigger" to bring them out the first time. Since they were bone, they were easily broken off, but since he has the regeneration power, he always grew them back. Also, they hurt more coming out, since the adamantium was easier to slip in and out then bone.
But, I am sure they have "retcon-ed" this stage in his character evolution over the years in the comics. They may be pulling it for the movie, though.

Yeah, there was a brief 6 comic mini-series that came out in the 90's that looked back on Wolverine's origins. The movie is taking a lot of from what it looks like. He pops his claws for the first time as a child but I want to say it was on accident and not his intent.
As far as Sabertooth and him being brothers, if they go with anything, I'd imagine it will be half-brothers. It has always been questioned if they were related, I always was in the camp that they were not. While I'm sure Sabertooth will be great in this, I kinda wish they went more for this choatic kill for the thrill peronality.
And as far as that comment to "why Marvel hates the Xmen," the comment should be more like, "Why does Tom Rothman hate the X-men or any franchise, for that matter?" Fact is, Fox Studios screwed the pooch with X3 and it looks like they are trying to make amends with this movie. And man, if a Deadpool spin-off does happen. I'll be just fine with that.

Brothers? Sabretooth and Wolverine as brothers? Friends and comerades are one thing, but brothers, no way. There are enough actual familial relations of heroes and villains that they do not need to make the most intense rivalry in comics a brother/brother thing. It looks amazing, and take out the fact that they're brothers and I would continue to be ecstatic, but for some reason the idea of them as brothers REALLY ticks me off.

I didn't think they literally meant that the two were brothers... just that they were close enough to be brother-like...
