'Thor' Casting Call: Tall? Young? Handsome? Come On Down!
Filed under: Action, Drama, Casting, RumorMonger, Comic/Superhero/Geek
In the months to come, I doubt that even a week will go by without us and other bloggers making some mention of 2010's looming Marvel tentpoles -- Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2 and Kenneth Branagh's Thor -- and while the former has most of its cast aligned (save for some villains), the latter is sorely lacking in a pretty critical Norse god figure.Alas, the hunt may already be on, if the scoop by Corona's Coming Attractions is accurate (and save for one typo, it all sounds about right). Producers are looking for a "physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild" male lead in his mid-to-late twenties and standing six feet or taller in height. They want "a natural warrior with a quick charming wit who must be genuinely and severly humbled before becoming the compassionate, mature her [sic] of our film."
Man, take away the height and age restrictions, and I'd say we may already have a winner...

"Who could it be? Believe it or not it’s just me." If they change very handsome to extremely handsome, technically, I could do this.

I think the guy who plays Riggins on Friday Night Lights would be a good choice.

It's a shame about the age thing 'cos Vincent D'Onofrio already did a brilliant Thor in 1987's 'Adventures In Babysitting'. Anyone remember that? He really looked the part and I said then "If they ever make a Thor movie.........."

There's a clear and obvious choice for Thor, since I'm not 2 inches taller:
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

I think Tyler Mane would be a good choice for Thor....
Sure he's a little old if you want "young" but he's got the size and the look.
Actng ability, meh, we shall see, but Thor is supposed to be a imposing figure. He is definitely that.

Only saw him on one episode of Smallville as Arthur Curry but he sure has the chin, the height and with his military bootcamp workout place he owns, he's gotta have the muscles.
Alan Ritchson anyone?

My roommate thinks Alexander Skarsgard would be a good choice and I agree. He was in Generation Kill and he's on True Blood.

Occasionally egotistical, petulant, and wild - oh, yeah, he can do that. Check.
In his mid-to-late twenties and standing six feet or taller in height - 6' 1" (1.85 m) and he's gonna be 31, but looks waaaay younger. Check!!
I just really want to see him bare chested and with a loincloth or tight leather pants. LoL.

I have been telling everybody that the role of Thor ought to be Nathan Jones ( "Fearless" ). Nathan is a 6' 11" ,yes ELEVEN!, former body-builder/wrestler who has been in a a couple of flicks. That is a " physically powerful " and tall to boot.

I vote for Luke Goss also. I recognized him in Hellboy2 from Blade2. The guy has moves and plays the warrior type well. In H2 he also shows he can play the regal type. He has my vote, if they want to make a Thor with some class, as opposed to the buffoon version that is often written. The Hulk can always play Marvel's oaf. Thor should be like a super-powered knight - the prince and champion of Asgard. Goss could do that nicely. No wrestlers, please.
