Michel Gondry to Direct 'Green Hornet'!
Filed under: Action, Comedy, Deals, Fandom, DIY/Filmmaking, Comic/Superhero/Geek
This just in: Production Weekly is reporting via their Twitter feed that Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Be Kind Rewind) is going to direct Seth Rogen in The Green Hornet. The Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed this, and Gondry's involvement is sure to take this much talked-about project to another, fantastical level. The Green Hornet has been plagued by issues ever since Seth Rogen announced he'd be writing the screenplay with Superbad pal Evan Goldberg and starring as The Green Hornet too. In fact, Rogen's lost a lot of weight for the role so far, and looks to be in pretty good shape (did you see him at the Oscars?). Meanwhile, Stephen Chow had originally signed on to direct and play Green Hornet's sidekick Kato, but backed out due to him wanting to direct his own superhero movie -- but according to THR, he's still expected to take on the role of sidekick (and we hope he does).
Gondry, however, would bring his wild imagination to a property that could totally use it. Assuming no one else drops out, count me in as someone who's extremely excited to watch the end result.
Thoughts?

I was just researching this movie yesterday and was so sad to see it may not be receiving further funding from Sony Pictures. Looks like that's been resolved.
And Gondry to direct! I don't think I could be more excited at this point. Lawd.

With Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg writing and Michel Gondry directing this could be a very funny/good super hero movie. I really hope Stephen Chow plays Kato as well.
I wonder is they'll make "Black Beauty" out of card board boxes.
this just went from wait and see to can't wait to see.

Cool. I was heartbroken to hear Stephen Chow wouldn't be directing any more, but I like Gondry, and as long as Stephen is still Kato and kicks some serious ass, then i'm back in anticipation land.
I don't think i've ever been this excited>mad as hell>then excited again for an upcoming movie before. Please be true and stop jerking us around!

Whoa! Awesome. My interest in this project decreased when Stephen Chow dropped out as the director, since I really wanted to see his vision of the Green Hornet, but now I'm ever more excited about it! I'm a huge fan of Michel Gondry! Gondry/Chow/Rogen combination sounds so crazy and random that it cannot result in anything less than pure awesome.

I was more interested in this flick when Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes were attached to it. Mewes has said on many occasions his end-all, be-all role was The Green Hornet. I was really stoked to see what he could do with it, no that he's sober...

Really having severe doubts about this project
I reluctantly accepted the idea of Rogen being a (comical)Hornet-
When it was announced Stephen Chow would be Kato AND direct-I actually started getting excited-
But-
With Chow dropping out as director (Wouldn't suprise me if he drops out as Kato, too) & Gondry replacing him-
This is looking to be a MAJOR disaster.

Green Hornet is not a comedy! I repeat...the Green Hornet is not a comedy. The Green Hornet is not a comedy. The Green Hornet is not a comedy. The Green Hornet is not a comedy!!!
Do your research, it's a crime action show. There's nothing funny about it!

Hey, Ron:
Maybe it won't be a comedy, but according to Gondry:
"The Green Hornet has always been very close to me and now that Seth & Evan have written a script that is funny and real - the best of both worlds..."
Please note the use of the word "funny"
