Drew Barrymore to Direct 'Twilight' Sequel 'Eclipse'?

I think every actress and their mother may become attached to New Moon or Eclipse in the months ahead. (Really, though -- what can top the Madonna rumors?)The latest rumor comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. Supposedly, Drew Barrymore is in talks to direct Eclipse, the third installment of the Twilight series. It's difficult to say if Barrymore would be a good pick or not, as she's just completed her directorial debut, Whip It! But she's run her production company with a lot of savvy, so why not? Too many actors have managed to be a success behind the camera for anyone to sneer, and it would be nice if an actress was actually among those successful ranks.
If you were wondering "So, what happened to Chris Weitz?" well, he's not coming back. The film and its release date were just announced in the trades, but they failed to mention that Weitz wouldn't be returning. According to EW, the production schedule will be so crunched that Weitz will be in post production on New Moon as Eclipse begins shooting, so it will be impossible for him to be behind the camera. (There are directors who manage that kind of multi-tasking, but they're probably crazy or have Starbucks for blood.)
I have to say -- I feel for you, Twilight fans. It's never fun when your franchise turns on itself.

I would be worried about Barrymore directing a Twilight movie but I have no intention of ever watching Twilight so she might as well have at it.

Okay, I LOVE Drew as an actress, she is cute and funny, but NOT as the director of any of the Twilight movies. These movies are going to be complex from here on out. Twilight may have just been a bunch of vamps and some great stunt work, but New Moon and Eclipse not to mention Breaking Dawn when it is made are going to require extensive CGI knowledge which she just does not have. She is a new director, with what ~ a FEW movies under her belt? I shudder to think about how bad Charlies Angels was or at least the second one and I believe that was her baby ~ correct? I am most certain that she will ruin what could be a brilliant movie if given to the RIGHT person, so PLEASE Summit re-think this crazy decision and either BEG Chris Weitz to come back or someone with his skills. For what it's worth, keep the big name stars out of the movies too, the formula you had last time worked and people like Dakota Fanning and all the Disney brats will change the whole feeling of these movies and you will piss off the fans in a big way which means LOSS OF MONEY!!!!!!!

I don't trust Miss Barrymore with my beloved films. They take a serious touch and she's proven to be a non-serious person. Charlies Angels and her strange behavior on red carpets, notwithstanding, I've never seen a directorial of hers that alludes to her skill managing an epic, romantic and twisting plot like Eclipse. I'm afraid it will turn silly and for me, sour. Hardwicke did such a great job developing the characters, allowing minutae and quiet emoting between Stewart and Pattinson to lead the first installment that I'm equally nervous about the premire of New Moon.
We'll see, I suppose, but I tell you this: Meyers best be careful who by and how these movies are made. She will not see the continued success of the saga the way JK Rowlands has if 20 different people have their hands on the script. There will be no fluid movement from one film, to the next. The continuum of themes, love affairs, friendships and character relationships is what makes the entire saga of books work. Let's please not lose that in the cinema! Your LEGIONS of fans implore you!
