McG Wants Robert Patrick in Next 'Terminator' Film

We already brought you a brief recap of the Terminator Salvation panel at this year's Wondercon, but director McG stuck around to talk shop with a few outlets, including Fearnet, who chatted up the possibility of Robert Patrick (aka the T1000 in Terminator 2) returning for the next Terminator film. Well, not only has McG spoken to the actor about making an appearance, but he appears to already have ideas on how to fit a much-older Patrick into the series. He says, "I talk to Robert Patrick with great regularity. It's interesting – I was [thinking of] a through line. I'll bounce it off of you guys: I like the idea in a prospective next picture that you meet Robert Patrick the way he looks today, and he's a scientist that's working on improving cell replication so we can stay healthier and we can cure juvenile diabetes and all these things that once again sound like good ideas -- and once again live as an idealized expression of ourselves. So imagine seeing a sixty-year-old Robert Patrick and knowing, 'Holy shit! That's gonna be the T-1000 – who comes back perfect, lean and the whole thing.' I haven't concluded that, but Robert and I had dinner the other night and talked about it. I made two movies with Robert Patrick, so I like him very much. And now he's very heavily into motorcycle riding. He's a really serious guy."
But will they all make a sequel? McG notes, "Let Memorial Day come. If we all get together and sit at a table like this and you guys give me a kick in the ass and say, 'Go make another one,' I'll deliver Bale and we'll get it done."
I'm not sure I'm entirely sold on that idea, but it would be interesting to meet the person the T1000 was based on as a human in the future. What do you think?

This doesnt make sense!
T1000 looks were based on the police officer he killed in t2 in order to find little brat boy.
This doesnt make sense
Why would a Wookiee, an eight-foot tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of two-foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense!

You're absolutely correct. That doesn't work at all, and it kind of shows how little McG knows about the whole series, which scares me that he's going off the rails for Salvation.
It looks great, but if he changes the whole mythology to suite his whim, it's going to suck.
I sure hope he hasn't already filmed something this stupid.

That's absolutely wrong. You need to go and watch the movie again.

I am all for seeing Robert back in the Terminator series every time I see him in a movie all I think about is that He might try and kill you because He's the Terminator.
Also Robert's looks are not based off the police officer He just kills the gop to get his car and cloths.

I don't think it needed his clothes seeing as how it could change its shape and appearance whenever it wanted ;p

Why would he tell us this? Probably to gauge the fan reaction.
Personally, I'm willing to see how he would work it out (though, frankly, I haven't seen T2 recently enough ... gives me an excuse to re-view it). I like Patrick and we don't see enough of him ... is this the right project? Good question.
(Heh, though, remember your article about nostalgia? I think it applies.)

Doesn't anyone else think this idea is strangely similar to Lance Henriksen's Bishop from the Alien movies? They pretty much did the exact same thing in the the first AVP.
I think it would be infinitely cooler to just have him come back as another T1000. How, you ask? Well, they could try to come up with a feasible reason that a robot would look 60 years old. Maybe it could be revealed that the machines made different versions of each robot at different ages for some reason? This would even retcon Arnie's much older looks in T3. Another option is to just age him down with CG and makeup since they seem to be getting pretty good at it. (Look at Brad Pitt in Benjamin Button. And I heard that's what they may do for Ian McKellan in the potential Magneto spin-off as well).

Actually, I'm surprised Robert Patrick hasn't appeared on the Sarah Connor series. It would fit if he played a human, a police detective, for example, who Sarah investigates because he will somehow become the template for the T-1000 in the future.

If you follow up on this, you'll find that, the way Cameron originally imagined the T-1000 was as a last ditch defense mechanism; a prototype so advanced that even Skynet was afraid of what it might be capable of (i.e. it wasn't sure the T-1000 could be controlled). It was only put into action after the humans had destroyed Skynet. It had no 'human' form and seemingly was not
'based' on anyone. At first, it was just a rough blob of liquid metal. When activated, it comes across a human soldier in the Skynet complex and kills him. This is the person who's form becomes it's default face. It is no one special. Just an average looking guy. It was never meant to be based off a scientist or something like that. I can be on board with where McG has been going with some of his ideas on the series so far (i.e. when you screw with the timeline, eventually there will start to be changes that no one could predict, hence the whole 'this is not the future my mother warned me about'). But don't jump too far with that. The changes have to be believeable. Putting Robert Patrick in there would just be a cheap substitute for wanting Arnold to do it.

Ok, a few people need to watch T2 again. T-1000 wasnt based on the cop he killed. He killed the cop for clothes and his car like any other bad terminator does. for those who have a hard on for Cameron, GET OVER HIM!!! He's done his part.
anyways, after watchin the special feature on the T3 dvd of the two guys the T-800 is based off on. One guy's voice would be used for the T-800 while the other is body and facial expressioned based, i forget the name Arnold was played as. But bottom line is i think its a great idea for MCG to involve Robert Patrick in more ways than one. From Robert Patrick playin a scientist, to be used as one more weapon in skynet's advantage to create the T-1000. Besides, im thankful that MCG i doin what he can to make sure all the Terminator films take place in the same continuity. If Arnold and Linda Hamilton got involved with Terminator Salvation, why not involve Robert Patrick in a different way too?
