Cinematical has just received this exclusive trailer for The Merry Gentleman, starring Michael Keaton and Kelly Macdonald. Not only does Keaton star here, but it's also his directorial debut -- and with it he gives us a story about a suicidal hitman (Keaton) who forms an unlikely friendship with a woman he finds underneath a Christmas tree. In his positive review from last year's Sundance Film Festival, Cinematical's Scott Weinberg called The Merry Gentleman a "crime drama that brings a strange sense of warmth, dark humor, and even some odd romance to a potentially dreary tale" -- adding that Keaton does "a fantastic job on both sides of the camera," creating "a straightforward "people" story, albeit one with a little more brains than usual."
On a personal note, we're all huge Michael Keaton fans here at Cinematical -- we're pumped to see the man back in action and honored to premiere the trailer for his directorial debut. The Merry Gentleman arrives in theaters on May 1.

I agree, more Keaton! I never understood why he got kinda kicked to the curb... was it multiplicity?

That is a fast response time if I have ever seen one. Just last night I commented in the post about who needs to make a comeback that Michael Keaton was the only choice and bam not 7 hours later they have shot, edited and are preparing for release a movie starring him. Well im off to solve the middle east crisis kids. Ill be back in I guess 15-20 mins.

I also love Michael Keaton and have missed his work. I have a personal reason for wanting to see this movie as well...my cousin who has been an actor in the Chicago theatre circuit is in the movie. He is amazing and I hope this movie gets him some positive recognition to go as far as he would like to in the film industry.

I really hope this is a comeback for MK. He's definitely one of the best, most versatile actors of the past 30 years -- both hilarious and intense. Why and how his career dipped after "Jackie Brown" has been one of the great cinema mysteries of recent years...

I have been anticipating this film since I heard about its appearance at the Sundance Film Festival. I have always been a Keaton fan because he can do "anything". He has been under-appreciated & I hope that this film & his directorial debut will remind the public of what a greatly talented man he is. If the trailers are any indication, I believe this to be a quality film that could possibly become a classic.
