Don't Forget: 2008's BEST FILM Hits DVD Today
Filed under: Foreign Language, Horror, Independent, Magnolia
I'll keep this short and sweet, because I've already lauded the living snot out of this movie on FEARnet, Twitter, Facebook, a few social network sites that don't even exist yet, and (of course) all the heck over Cinematical. Granted, most who've seen the film Let the Right One In would probably agree that it deserves the little extra press boost, but all I know is I love-love-loved the film, and since I work here, I can write what I want, consarnit.Anyway, as you already know by now (if you can read) the film is about vampires. But not like The Lost Boys or Lestat or the Twilight tickle-me-emos, more like a normal-Johann kid who befriends a new neighbor, only to discover that she's quite the bloodthirsty little vampiress. But as us critic-types like to say: It works on, like, more than one level, man. It's got ... depth! Plus it's gorgeous to look at (oooh, Blu-Ray!), easy on the ears, peppered with great little horror touches, surprisingly moving, and supremely satisfying in the closing moments.
Also included on the platter: Four deleted scenes, a solid (but way too brief) 7-minute making-of featurette, and a poster / photo gallery. No commentary, unfortunately, but in some cases (most, actually) I suppose it's best to simply let the film speak for itself. Maybe in a couple of years?
Note: "2008's BEST FILM" does not reflect the opinion of the entire Cinematical staff, although I know James and Eric liked it a lot. I bet Lisa and Mon will too. Erik will once it shows up on TBS. Anyway, that opinion comes from me and me alone. Love, Scott

What do you mean? I've already seen it, and you sent it to me along with a photo of you making out with the movie poster (which was kinda weird but I didn't say anything because we're friends - but, um, yeah, what was up with that?) ...

you haven't seen LTROI until you seen it on blu ray, you could spend hours counting every single snow flake and pubic hair

It is nice to see this movie actually get some love! I thought this movie was brilliant, and should have won some awards. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie so complete in it's story. The movie stayed with me long after I finished watching it.

Netflix will have this in my mailbox tomorrow (Blu-ray of course... no one would watch this on DVD), so I am pretty pleased about that. If it's half as good as I've been hearing for months and months, that's good enough for me.
Can't believe how many "big" buzz movies came out this week. No way to see them all.

I would warn you against building up this movie too much in your mind. While it's a tremendous film, I promise you, it's not exactly what you think it is.
I watched it after all the buzz was in full swing, and I was expecting something, and what it turned out to be, was something completely different than any other experience I've had at a movie.
It is a great film, but try to go into with an open mind about what you're about to experience, and it won't let you down.
If you try to expect something utterly amazing, it probably won't live up to those expectations, and he'll be left unfulfilled.

It was pretty good, I was not disappointed or anything. I have seen enough foreign films to know they will be depressing and bleak, so that is what I went into it expecting.
I was very pleased with the moment when Eli is on the hospital wall. I had to rewind that one, completely threw me! :D

This was a great movie, didn't have a chance to get to the store to buy the blu-ray, tomorrow for sure as a lot of great films came out this week on Blu. A little disappointed that there is no commentary, would really like to hear more about the making of the film.

Yes, there is no need for that.

Before seeing it, I was going to disagree, and say that if you "don't want a remake to happen" don't see it, and studios might get the point.
After seeing it, I don't get the point of a remake. How do you improve on perfection? There is also a lacking amount of young actors in Hollywood that you could cast for this movie & could trust with the material. I think the age of the starring youngsters is key to the story.
So, you're right, don't remake this mike green, don't do it :)
