Why Go to the 'Dollhouse' When You Have a 'Cabin in the Woods'?
Joss Whedon is basically a God amongst geeks, and a breath of fresh air to female-centric media. But this whole Dollhouse thing has got us in limbo, as much as it hurts my fangirl heart to say. Can it find the magic of Buffy? Can Eliza hold her own as a woman of many faces? When will we see more Acker? I know I'm not alone in my trepidation over the new show, but now I'm wondering if all the magic is just being funneled into The Cabin in the Woods. The Hollywood Reporter posts that Cabin, which is now shooting, has its horror playmates: Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchinson, Fran Kranz, and Jesse Williams. These guys might come from gigs like Star Trek and Revolutionary Road, but they're relative newcomers to the scene. (Although Kranz is already part of the Whedonverse -- he plays Topher on Dollhouse.) Joss says: "Each of the 'kids' is unique, fascinating and talented, and like true friends, the group is more than the sum of its parts. These are people you care about, able to go toe to toe with the amazing actors we've corralled thus far, and not unpretty in the bargain. I can't wait to harm them."
I'm getting a Buffy feeling about all of this. It could be just desperate hope, but Whedon has proved to have an eye for new talent, whether it be on the vampire or cowboy space stage. And with Drew, it's like the magic of Sunnydale all over again -- the man with the vision teamed with the man who brought us "Conversations with Dead People."
It just sucks that we can't get scared this Halloween -- Cabin has been bumped to a romantic, February 5, 2010 horror date.

I never watched anything Joss Whedon made until Doctor Horrible, but Dollhouse is freaking awesome.

I'm enjoying "Dollhouse," but I don't have the unmitigated LOVE for it that I have for "Buffy," "Angel," "Firefly"/"Serenity" and "Dr. Horrible." (Or, for that matter, "Toy Story," which everyone forgets earned Whedon an Oscar nod.) But I do find myself enjoying it more with each passing week. It's clearly going somewhere. Here's hoping Fox gives it a chance.
So yeah, I'm still more than excited to check out anything Joss does, and Drew Goddard's working on "Cabin," too. Sounds like a winner to me!

Joss Whedon used to mean awesome. However after Dollhouse and his run on Runaways I'm apprehensive. The show is too meh for me. He has fallen from the ranks of a god to a mere mortal.

I loved Buffy & Firefly (Serenity to me was just sort of like ... exes getting together after the flame already died, you know). Angel had its moments but really didn't grab me like the others. Dollhouse ... is keeping me coming back, we'll have to see how it develops; it's early yet.
As for Cabin, I'll definitely check it out. Movies aren't TV, though.

I'm hoping Dollhouse, like Firefly, improves once the Fox meddling is done and Joss gets to create the show he wanted. Then again, this is Fox, so they'll probably can it after 7 episodes, with the last two actually being stellar.
On the other point - I can't hear the title "Cabin in the Woods" without the song of the same name from Evil Dead: The Musical going through my head.
Cabin in the woods oo oooo... cabin in the woods yah ahhh...
