First Look: Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland'

Yesterday we reported on a Disney meeting which featured the first image of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland -- and, remember, we told you that the audience were all happy-go-lucky and whatnot with their oohhs and ahhs? At the same meeting, it was announced that in the next issue of D23 (or Disney Twenty-Three) -- Disney's pricey quarterly magazine -- there would be a first look at Wonderland alongside an interview with Burton. 24 hours later, scans of the Wonderland feature in D23 have arrived online -- including the image above of Alice (newcomer Mia Wasikowska) presumably looking down the rabbit hole. Additionally, the scans also show concept art of the famous tea party, hosted by the Mad Hatter (see below). In the article, Burton refers to the film as "kind of a mixture of some distorted live action and animation." We'll update this post when better images arrive online, but in the meantime check out larger versions of these two in the gallery below and the rest over at TimBurtonCollective.

I've watched many of Tim Burton's films, and I've noticed that in a lot of them, if not the majority of them, many of the female leads have blond hair and are doll-faced with dark, brown eyes.
Not saying that Alice in this movie shouldn't; that's kind of a given. But, seriously, does he have some sort of fetish with these sort of characters or something? It kind of annoys me, actually.

The blond doll faced women are a symbol of purity. Untainted, unattainable, beauty and innocence.

Alice in Wonderland- A New Look
Jessica Rosario-Artist
jessicarosario.com
If you like the traditional or even Disney’s version of “Alice in Wonderland” you’ll love this Artist and her website! Jessica’s work makes you think about what it would be like to go down the rabbit hole and to encounter these eerie alien-like characters.
Her work is hypnotic, stare into the eyes of Jessica Rosario’s portraits long enough, and you're bound to feel both completely mesmerized and completely spooked. Her subjects haunt the viewer from inside the image as if they were hiding some terrible secret.
She creates scenarios of isolation and distance that occur in an ambiguous time and space, with a focus on the interaction between characters and the suggestion of narrative. The artist executes her compositions using a combination of photography and digital manipulation. Props and vintage costumes are carefully selected, as are her subjects.
Remarkably captivating yet exceedingly eerie, and to think these are all self portraits!

I'm so very excited for this film. I also am not fond of Alice being blonde...but you must remember, good old Disney, right? I'm not the biggest fan of Disney, and I'm sure the blonde thing was their idea. It isn't really a big deal though, the movie will be amazing.
I've been a Tim Burton fan for a very long time, and have seen most of his movies. The first person commented that he uses alot of blonde, doll-faced girls. Personally, I notice he has a thing for redheads: Sally, Beetlejuice, Johnny's Mad Hatter (apparently).
SO EXCITED.
