Geek Daily: Spider-Man 4, Deadpool, Monster Attack Network, and More!

When it comes to superhero franchises, the news just never ends, and the next one on everyone's radar is bound to be Spider-Man 4. It has its release date set (May 6, 2011) and Sam Raimi says they're only working on part four at this point, and still in the middle of hashing out a story. They are, however, close to choosing the big baddie: "All the characters or villains, whatever we decide to do will be from Stan Lee's creations or those that came after him." He's also planning to write in Mary Jane, and hopes Kirsten Dunst agrees to come back ... so I guess that's an indication she's still not signed the way Tobey Maguire is. [MTV]
X-Men Origins: Wolverine seems to have test screened, somewhere, and spoiler filled reviews are hitting the Internet. (Scott Adkin Fanz has one, but its origin is uncertain. Read at your own risk.) I haven't read them (surprises in this job are so far and few between that I'd like to go into Wolverine fairly fresh) but Devin Faraci is wondering how the heck they can go to Japan from here ... or anywhere, really.
One of the biggest questions (other than: Will it suck?) surrounding Wolverine is what they've done with Deadpool. The LA Times' Dish Rag caught up with Ryan Reynolds and he painted a tiny picture of how the film approaches the character: "I don't even look at it like I play Deadpool. I really think I'm more or less playing Wade Wilson, obviously, and then I'm playing the creature that will eventually become Deadpool. But in this movie, it's sort of his newly formed version, so to speak." He also shrugs off rumors that he's being groomed for his own spinoff. "I've had a couple of people approach me about meetings for a 'Deadpool' movie, but I just think it's absurd to even think that way until this movie comes out."

X2 and Watchmen scripwriter David Hayter has formed a production company, Dark Hero, with Benedict Carver. First up: Slaughter's Road, starring Thomas Dekker and (possibly) Ray Stevenson. Demonology is also on the slate. So if big studios don't tackle tricky comic properties, Hayter may just do it himself. [Variety]
Monster Attack Network now has a director: the man who beat Watchmen at the box office, Escape From Witch Mountain's Andy Fickman. [Variety]
If you liked your first look at The Goon, here's a second. Blur Studio artist Sean McNally has posted some concept art on his blog, as well as a high res version of the teaser poster from ComicCon 2008. It's art that defines "eye candy."

Elizabeth,
This is the second time you have called it Escape to Witch Mountain... really not a big deal at all but still, just thought you should know.
Personally I like the word Escape better than Race... but that's just me.

Elisabeth,
I took one for the team and read the review. I'll quote something non-spoilerish from the post.
Non-Spoiler:
"This is where I will just say that the movie gets more awesome than it already is. The fight sequences are great, the story takes twists and turns, and the "holy shit!" moments make you want to cheer. I will see this movie again on opening weekend with a full audience of fans. It is THAT kind of movie. Loved it, loved it, loved it.
And one more thing...there are things after the credits..so stick around, for those of you who jump up right at the fade out."
They go on to stress that all of this news could be fake. The first line says:
"Guys please don't read ahead if you don't want to spoil the film as these are some big spoilers if they are confirmed to be true."
And the last line says:
"GUYS REMEMBER THIS COULD BE ALL FAKE"
If true, I hope this "geeks" you out a bit. har har.

Ok, we all know Wolverine is going to own the box office if last year was any indication (3 out of the top 5 grossing films being comic book adaptations), but the real fun needs to happen at this point. WHO WILL BE SPIDEY'S NEW VILLAIN!?
I personally would like to see them go simpler on the whole villaithing myself. Think more about the movie then how many freaking toys can we shit out for this one. The question behind that though is which villain would you pick that can carry the movie solo? Venom easily could have (can?). Carnage definatly could. Jackal would be in my opinion an awesome choice and could easily lead into the 5th movie in a whole Ben Riley/Kaine, clone thing.
But I'm really just another fan boy.

I just saw it, I got the DVD, so we didnt watch it on a small dinky screen, but a full size wall with my friends projector! Movie was ok.., I wanted more character action though, it didnt have enough!!!!! Which is pretty sad, since I was hyped up from the great trailer....
Didnt like how wolverine loses memory from a bullet made out of admantium. Also Sabretooth smashed his regular claws before stryker gives him his metal fix, SO how the hell does he have more claws later in the film? I dont think the claws can heal themselves right? if they could, then what was the whole point of making it all dramatic when he stepped on them? Oh No! What shall I do.
Ill buy the better version when it comes out, probably out in a couple weeks. Unfortunately I rarely rent or go to theatres anymore, since CHina gets freaking everything soo early and for $0.50, even less sometimes. AhhAA...Im usually the guy everyone calls from the states. I think I should be a movie critic
Also I totally agree with DEADPOOL, fucking sucked!!!! what the shit was that?? I thought special effect were suppost to get better with time, but they trashed such a good character...lazer beams? ahha Baraka?? and still shooting lazer beams from a head falling....falling....no body, maybe its like a chicken except opposite. The body doesnt run around, BUT its the HEAD that has all the juice.
I dont know how someone can comment that this was better than previous X movies...not even close! The whole gambit vs wolverine was hella weak too, sooo many questions... I mean geez, wolverine is in full battle with the tooth and gambit strolls along and doesnt even blink he is in a fight? Maybe you can throw in a line? "Ahh I see you are fighting someone else, but I want to fight you first, then afterwards continue fighting with whoever that guy is with long nails"
Teleporter? Weakkkk.....how do you go from superheroes with the coolest powers to this!!!! Sorry...I have already watched JUMPER and the display of teleportation in combat was pathetic....FOX take some tips from Jumper, their fight scenes was TOP grade compared to yours.
Lost boy and his power to control electricity...again..WTH? where is the display of his skills? Lightbulbs? Can you at least try to make the hundreds of lightbulbs on your celing pop at once? maybe an electrical charge? cmon man, put up a fight, the TOOTH is not that crazy.......
Agent Zero.....poor guy..maybe instead of bullets, he should have had a saw blade shooter...havent you learned "your puny bullets cannot stop the Great Wolverine" especially after Stryker told you over and over and over and over....CUT OFF HIS HEAD! The head has the juice!!!!!
FOX, its a time of recession, people are down and need a Great movie and thought they were going to get one. I backed up this movie to everyone, saying it will be a contender. People are losing their jobs. 1 out of every ten americans receive food stamps and you want them to pay $10 to see this?
***suggestion** Let Terminator and Transformers take their fame. Delay release, make all the corrections necessary, consider all bloggers comments and then GUARD your shit like its the Mona Lisa. You will then redeem yourselves and be a great studio again.
**favorite part of movie** Watching logan cut dow a big tree
