Ski Accident Leaves Natasha Richardson Brain Dead?
Earlier today, news started to surface that Natasha Richardson had been in a ski accident on Quebec's Mont Tremblant on Monday. According to reports, she'd suffered a minor fall during a private lesson with a ski instructor -- no visible signs of injury or immediate problems. About an hour after the fall, while sitting with the ski patrol and instructor, she developed a headache and was taken away in an ambulance. At 12:30 today, she was taken out of the hospital and left the country. Now, according to FOXNews, the Tony-award winning actress, who is married to Liam Neeson and the daughter of Vanessa Redgrave, is brain dead. Sources have told the site that she is being transported back to New York City to be taken off life support. Neeson was filming in Toronto at the time, and quickly flew to be at his wife's side.
But as of now, there are conflicting rumors and reports that range from minor injuries to, as Fox says, life-support. As the story evolves, we'll keep you updated.
Our thoughts are with you, Ms. Richardson.
Update: The hospital told TMZ that Richardson is suffering from brain swelling, and is not, in fact, brain dead.
Update 2: Liz Smith is now reporting that Natasha Richardson has been taken off life support.

bloody ghouls wanting to be the first to break (as in "guess at") bad news! I pray Ms. Richardson makes a full recovery and my prayers are with her family at this time, which is difficult enough without the press clamoring to see who can post the more dramatic (and hopefully wrong) headline.

According to CNN, the resort said she was not. You'd think the instructor of a newbie on the slopes would have made one mandatory

A CHANCE TO LEARN FROM THIS: If everyone could learn that, after a fall or accident, stay flat & stabilized until injury to head, spine, back can be verified. It can mean the difference between serious damage, perhaps paralysis & recovery. Football players know this. When injured, the docs or medics run out to field, stabilize before putting on stretcher. But, in movies and TV, someone always runs up to the injured person and either lifts their head or carries them off, bent like a pretzel and/or with head dangling. Permanent Damage may occur right there.
Hope movies and TV show the correct way, Why not?
We are all rooting for Natasha. Perhaps she already had a medical condition in her brain and then fell. Or had a condition exacerbated by falling.

We're told she was having a private lesson on a green slope (beginner) at a ski resort in Quebec, Canada. She fell -- we're not sure why.

I do believe that she is brain dead. It is my understanding that with a severe brain injury, she would not have been flown so quickly after the accident because it could cause even more harm. As soon as I head they were airlifting her to New York, I assumned the worse. My heart goes out to her family.

I do not know what her actual condition is, but there has been no offical comment by liam neeson or anyone (except by the hospital to TMZ) with the authority to explain whether she is brain dead or not.
I find the whole gossip mags and internet reports where everything is considered as fact to be ridiculous- there have been a number of reports by unreliable sources say that she infact is brain dead and her husband must make the difficult choice of turning off her life support- even one of my countries top news progams chose to run with this informationd. To spice up a story with dramatic tones is sad but very predicatable- i just wished we could get back to a world where people were more interested in truth and reliability not sensationalism.

Even if she suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury, there is still hope. She needs lots of prayers, lots of help and rehabilitation, but never lose hope. My daughter survived a TBI after being in a coma 2 months. I refused to pull the plug, and after 4 years she is a real miracle and gives hopes to others.
We will be praying for you.

This is so, so sad. Don’t let something like this happen to you. ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET!

Helmets….Straight Outta Hell
You simply cannot underestimate the sensitivity of your head just because you’re on snow. This is so sad because this incident was completely preventable… had she simply been wearing a helmet.

This story upsets people because who hasn't slipped and hit their head the same way. Now the next time it happens to you, even if you are not a hypochondriac, you will be convinced
it's all over if you have a slight headache. People who have head injuries will be inclined to have it checked out because of this sad accident.

Damn media! Get it right! She isn't brain dead, although her injuries are more serious than thought at first. You people should be ashamed of yourselves for not getting the facts before printing something - no wonder many of us ignore what you have to say! It's hardly ever correct! My thoughts and prayers are with Ms. Richardson and her family as she recovers!

Oh the humanity ! Another rich, spoiled, wacko, liberal actor, on vacation (while the rest of us are losing our jobs) bumps her head and croaks. Soooo what, how many good hardworking people died today? What a tragedy, good riddance ! As the world economy collapses and we slide into anarchy you sheeple have nothing better to do than fawn over some useless bag of skin who never cared about any of you, in fact I would wager she and her family despised the "common people" that's you you fools, wake up and stop idolizing these scumbags who don't care if you and yours lives or dies !
