'Green Lantern' To Shoot in September, Martin Campbell Confirmed as Director

The Green Lantern doesn't need official outlets like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, just Production Weekly and Twitter. Following Tweeted reports that production offices were being set up in Melbourne, Australia for a September shoot, Dark Horizons contacted producer Donald DeLine to find out whether or not they were true.
They are, and the film has a director: Martin Campbell. Says DeLine: "We are leaving for Australia Wednesday night with Martin Campbell, our director, to go scout in Sydney and Melbourne. We plan on starting to shoot mid-September in Australia."
DeLine confirms that not a single actor has been cast, and didn't confirm any rumor as to anyone screen testing. He merely repeated that this will be the origin story of Hal Jordan.
It's difficult to get too wound up without a lead actor in place, but hey ... now you've got a director who did a pretty nice job on a little film called Casino Royale. You're definitely getting a Green Lantern movie. It has a release date of December 17, 2010. Are you starting to get a little excited

I was a huge Green Lantern fan as a teenager so I'm really looking forward to this movie. I just hope they do it right; and doing it right will start with finding the best person to play Hal Jordan. I still like the idea of Ryan Gosling.

Great news... love the GL movie green light, very cool... and I'm even more happy to get confirmation that it is the Hal Jordan story rather than the John Stewart one...since I think of all the GLs John stewart is by far the most boring... I was so disappointed that the original idea for JLA had him instead of Hal but now that that is DOA maybe this movie will make some Hal head way.
Now to address the casting... I agree a Ryan would be key but I think Ryan Reynolds (if they can get over the Marvel conection/Deadpool) he has the gravity and the depth (see his performance in Nine for proof). Or I could also see Sam Trammell (from True Blood) but I think based on the Notebook and Fracture that Gosling has an inherent weakness that doesn't fit for the man with the strongest will on earth, don't get me wrong that weakness is his strength and makes him relatable as a romantic lead or unassuming hero but Hal Jordan is a test pilot and all around bad ass.
Careful casting is key look at what happened with Topher Grace as Eddie Brock (that was all kinds of wrong)... I'm reserving judgment on Joseph Gordon Levit as Cobra Commander but he does seem a bit young and small for the guy who runs an international cadre of soldiers and is basically a world power, if terroristic in nature. It could work but ???? I'm scared.
Just my two cents

AICN is reporting Chris Pine for the lead. God why can't the WB cast a adult. Not someone who looks 12 years old. Nathan Fillion would be perfect.

Um, Pine is 29. I'm really getting tired of this "he looks 12" BS. I'm 24, but I could easily pass for 16 or so. Those who deride people for looking having youthful appearance are simply jealous, IMO.
As for Fillon, sorry, won't work. He was good in Serenity, but he is a TV actor not a film one. Secondly, he's fairly busy with his own TV series right now.

I agree with Fillion too - not sure about his schedule but I think he looks the part and has good humor etc.
Chris Pine? I dunno - he is playing Kirk now and was good in Bottle Shock but not much to go on there
Ryan Gosling could be good just because the guy can act but Fillion is still my first choice.
