UPDATE: First 'Where the Wild Things Are' Trailer!

UPDATE: The trailer is now online over on Apple in HD (or view it below) ... and it's absolutely brilliant. The Arcade Fire song was an excellent choice for this first trailer; it intensifies the film's fantastical elements and makes the thing look so wondrous. The Wild Things look great and real and not CGI -- I have a feeling that this is the sort of film that will feel 20 years old, but look brand new. An instant classic? Let's hope ... I was addicted to this book when I was a kid. Where the Wild Things Are hits theaters on October 16.
What are your thoughts on the trailer?
Cinematical was just informed that the first three-minute Where the Wild Things Are trailer just premiered at the end of the Ellen DeGeneres show, which means it should be arriving online at some point today. We'll be back inside this post when it does hit the online, but in the meantime if you're in another time zone watching the Ellen show right now, make sure you tune in for the trailer -- which may hit online once Ellen makes her way to the west coast (show airs at 3pm out there, 6pm EST). Cinematical reader Charles wrote in with the report, saying only that the trailer "does not look like a movie for kids at all."
Check out our gallery of images from the film below, and keep it tuned in right here as we anticipate the first trailer to head our way real soon.

I think 'wondrous' is the exact right word for it. It doesn't look too silly or too childish, but also isn't too dark (as some of the rumored early test screenings said). Very promising..

Holy shit, that looks absolutely incredible. I think they totally captured the right tone from the look of it and The Wild Things DO look great. That song was perfect too. Shit, even if the movie sucks, that trailer was totally enchanting.

Absolutely amazing. As Dan said, even if the movie somehow was not good, this trailer is a work of art in its own right.
I teared up a bit

Holy crap that was awesome. The song is "Wake Up" by Arcade Fire for those wondering, one of my favorite songs ever. Fits perfectly.

A great trailer, truly great. But the odd thing is the song is not the album version (maybe a live version?) Anyway i am so pumped!

Everything visually in the trailer is great. That song TOTALLY KILLED the mood of that opening bit though.
WTF? It's making it look like a zany kids film with that kind of song. Can't they put some fanciful score that makes it fit with the visuals instead of a fucking modern pop song? Totally zapped my magic mojo with the look of the piece. GOD I PRAY that the movie itself isn't caked with that kind of crap because of the damn suits.
It just might ruin a masterpiece....

WOW! I thought the trailer rocked including the music. But after reading your post, it completly makes sense what you said. Melancholy is nice but Donnie Darko had enough of that. A ton of pop songs would suck ass. Its doubt ful they would go that route though......I hope....................

I doubt the "suits" would ever push for a song by Arcade Fire. It barely registers as pop. Arcade Fire is also working on the score to Richard Kelly's new movie. It should be awesome! It's actually kind of refreshing to not hear the same predictable Danny Elfmanesque music that usually comes with this type of picture.

That has lived up to all my expectations of what it would look like. We all know Jonze had it in him, but wow... I'm blown away. Perfect song choice, too.
