Sweet! Sam Raimi Has Started Writing 'Evil Dead 4'
Filed under: Action, Classics, Comedy, Horror, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Scripts, Remakes and Sequels
Hail to the king, baby! Our Ash is one step closer to being back.I officially forgive Sam Raimi for any disagreement we have over Kirsten Dunst and Spider-Man. The director recently had a long chat with Empire magazine, and he had a lot of good things to say about the long-anticipated sequel in the Evil Dead series.
So far, he's seven pages into a script for Evil Dead 4, with brother Ivan, just as he hoped: "Every time I'm with my brother Ivan, we write another page of it. It's in Detroit and in my garage." Raimi continued: "There's some dialogue. Ash being an idiot. Ash taking some abuse. Some character stuff and then some structure of Act Two. Just other possibilities for things that could happen. It's ideas, jokes, things we'd like to see."
Of course, Bruce Campbell is "firmly in mind" to star, but I bet it would be more accurate to say that there's no project without him. Some recasts might work, and I might love Ryan Ward in Evil Dead: The Musical, but there is NO replacing Campbell's Ash.
The Raimis have secretly outlined what they want to see in the sequel, but what would you folks like to see?

So will there be an update on special effects or will the new one stick to the good old fashioned props?
I personally prefer the old effects, they add to the overall fun.

Has anyone read some fan script for Evil Dead 4 from maybe 10 years ago that was around on the internet? All I remember was that it picked up right after the extended version of AoD ended in the future, and the evil overran the world. A grop of survivors live in the cabin, the only safe place on earth, Ash's metal hand gets possessed and conspires with the bones of Ash's original possessed hand or something like that. In any case, it was one of the better pieces of fan fiction I've read, really kept the spirit of the movies. Glad that Raimi's doing the real deal now and glad that he's rolling in so much Spidey cash that he can make Evil Dead 4 and not worry about whether or not it has a broader appeal than to us geeks. For this, I will waive my "if it's been 10 years or longer since the last one, don't do another one" rule.

After seeing My Name is Bruce, it's obvious that Campbell isn't the boomstick-weilding bad-ass he once was. Sure, he's still got the snark, sarcasm, bravado, timing, and slapstick ability to be Ash, but he's developing a second chin and showing his age.
SO - they should have Ash be realistically older as well. No Campbell=no sequel for sure. But make him the manager at the S-Mart, still an overbearing loser with a penchant for horror and science who can kick some serious ass when the time comes and the crazy eyes appear, but with bad joints and joining the legions of actioners who are "too old for this shit."

I would love to see a middle aged Ash, and wife and kids and maybe even dog, going camping. It would be a sort of Vacation movie, with Ash seen as a bit of a loser to his family. But, if they're stuck in a cabin, as we all know, Ash gets the Boom Stick out and mayhem ENSUES!!! He will keep everyone safe, except the dog, because a member of the family will have to die for it all to be poignant. Maybe they could pick up a hitchhiker or be near a cabin of another family, just so someone could get decimated by the necro-force. Man, I can't wait. I hope their script is as good as the one in my head!!!

It should be continued from the director's cut of army of darkness. With the money, Sam has he can put a nice budget into the picture. Heck...even do a remastered version of the films like George Lucas did to the Star Wars. Bruce could be trapped in the future and his age would be perfect for the fourth film because at the end of the army of darkness director's cut, he has grown a beard and aged. Its, Hollywood now. They can make it work. i do like how Sam Raimi made two alternate endings. That really leaves the sequel a huge plaground of ideas. But Bruce can only play Ash. Harrison Ford played Indiana Jones again. Come on Bruce, show Harrison what you are made of!

I would like to see Sam Raimi take the movie back to the more serious horror of the first Evil Dead, but alas... it will never happen.
What we are going to get is Army Of Darkness part 2, except with a bigger budget and CG monsters, and of course the goofball Ash.
Not what the hardcore fans would want but will satisfy the mainstream bunch.

Personally, Id like to see an Evil Dead sequel which would be more in tune with the horror elements of Evil Dead 1 and 2. The third one one was played straight for laughs and although I enjoyed it, its nowhere nearly as good as the first two. I just pray that Raimi sees it that way too! I do not want to see another Army of Darkness. I saw it when it was in the cinema and I was very disappointed the first time I watched it, although I have come to be fond of it over the years. So much could have been done with the whole medieval backdrop that the film was set against. Raimi had all the ingredients for a genre crossing classic along the lines of Brotherhood Of The Wolf at his disposal. Yet the film wasted any chance it had. Can Raimi do us proud all these years later??? Thats the million dollar question!! Lets hope he can. I suppose the worst that can happen is that it sucks. If it does, sure we can always just ignore it, and pretend it just doesnt exist, and be content with our DVD collections of the original trilogy.

OK- Ignore "My Name Is Bruce" cuz its NOT an EVIL DEAD FILM, those who think it is need there heads blown off!!! DO NOT ignore Evil Dead 1 and 2 and Army of Darkness Cuz we need that FOURTH wheel on the oldsmoble, doing a remake would be like having a spare tire on the car-- IT JUST WONT WORK (especially if rob zombie is gonna direct the remake HE WILL KILL IT!). If there is a conflict of Raimi directing ED4 cuz of spidey 4 and 5 made back to back; Id like to see Scott Spiegal direct (scotty should direct the remake cuz he'll do it RIGHT) cuz he has not directed since dusk till dawn 2. Obviosly Bruce will come back cuz Evil Dead made his carrer. yes have it to be years later (cuz it is). Great idea on him being a manager at S-Mart(golf clap to you). Have more locations like the video games and comic books, but ignore those events (the hot black nurse in that one comic was AWESOME) lets mix it up with black, white and latin characters. Include what goes on in real life- the pricks, the stoners, the drunks, the bigger idiots that dont listen to Ash...... OH HAVE THE EVIL ASH MAKE AN APPEARCE (ED2 not AoD). And yes have all 3 founders of KNB fx reunite for this film (cuz there carrer boomed after ED2 and AoD) [sigh, wipes sweat off forehead]. And thats all I can say, I have full faith in Sam Raimi and so should you!!!!!! thats my 10 cents!

I would LOVE to see a return to the effects of evil dead 1 & 2. The bloody mess just made it so much more fun, and even if it gets an NC-17, you know that we will come out en masse to watch it everywhere it can be shown and then purchase multiple copies/releases with glee. More blood MORE!

Oh boy....That's all I could say when I heard the news of another Evil Dead flick. It will be movie of the decade forsure! Campbell has to play Ash, If not, don't even bother with it at all. It could start from where he finds himself at the end of the directors cut of Army of darkness. From there, the sky is the limit. I would like to see it quickly go from the Army Of Darkness setting to a more like Evil Dead setting. Perhaps back at the cabin where it all started...... Easy on the computer graphics, more props and blood. Lots of blood!! Gotta go completely over the top with the gore. Screw the ratings, forget about theatre acceptance. Make it right! It will do fantastic. Trust me.

I think it's fairly obvious that Ash in Evil Dead 4 will be much older. However, unlike Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, I would like to see a return to the overly gory nature of the first Evil Dead. I know Evil Dead 2 had some gore, it just wasn't near as over-the-top as The Evil Dead.
Just a thought.

An evil dead 4 movie would be awseome. what could be exciting about would start it from the ending of the directors cut of AOD and kind of spin off from the ps2 game of evil dead regeneration. Before ash got locked up in an asylum and all that. and instead of going CGI for sam, go with the old original way with the face sculpting and all that. Instead of hearing ted raimi's voice, use ted raimi, he could pull it off quite nicely. I'm not saying use the game use characters and some of the story from the game. It would make it seem interesting.
