Nicholas Sparks + Miley Cyrus? Oh Please, Dear Lord, No!
It's a match made in hell -- a new movie scripted by heartstring-tugging hack writer Nicholas Sparks (perpetrator of The Notebook and Nights in Rodanthe), starring marginally talented, pudding-faced 'tween idol Miley Cyrus. I know! It's a terrifying idea! And I'm sorry if I frightened you, but it's actually in the works. That is, should a location for filming the thing ever be decided. According to the Associated Press, North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue scheduled a press conference on Wednesday to announce that the movie, titled The Last Song, would be shot in her fine state, bringing hundreds of jobs along with the production. But the press conference was subsequently canceled, as the details had, apparently, not been ironed out.
Gov. Perdue told the Wilmington Star-News that the state of Georgia was also hot for the Disney-produced project, but the AP was unable to confirm, and Disney reps said that they had no idea where the movie would be filmed.
So now would be the time, should you live in either of these states, to write to your local Film Commission, or Department of Commerce, or even call the Governor, and speak your mind! Only you, the citizens of these United States, can stop the Miley Cyrus/Nicholas Sparks movie before it begins! And speaking as a film critic who will probably have to sit through it should it ever be made ... I beg you to act now.

You apparently haven't actually met Miley Cyrus and worked with her. Every Producer, Director, Actor, Singer, Writer, etc... that has ever worked with her think she is great. You have bought into the negative hype, and don't even care to find out the truth. So why don't you keep your opinions to yourself until you get better informed. There are lots of Child stars, and dDisney did not promote her any more than any of their other stars. She just has talent, and smart people in the entertainment industry can see it. My suggestion to you it to go to work at a 711 and get some people skills so you can better read people and then perhaps you will be able to determine talent.

Wow. Vicious! So it seems that Stan has either worked with her in some kind of compacity or he is her publicist or some kind of crazy stalker!
The fact is that she has received so much negative publicity in the last year and that she is really not that talented of a performer, seeing as she sings with a vocal track and she doesn't write her own songs etc. etc. etc. could be why he wrote what he wrote.
As for Nicholas Sparks, his material is more emotion than actual guts and true feeling, maybe it is a good thing that this does not pan out.
PS: As for her not being hyped as much as the other stars of the Disney machine, you are either having tea with Bin Laden in his private cave or an absolute idiot.

wow Stuntman_jones. You haven't done any research either. She is one oof the only stars taht doesn't use a vocal backtrack.an allof the negative publiccity, is like I said people like you buying into the negative hype and spreading the the false, and incomplete rumors. DO the Research. At least the Business publication, seem to get it right. They do the research, because it affects their bottom line. And as far as her being hype more that her fellow Disney stars, Just sit down and watch any of Disneys TV stations, especially Disney, or listen to Radio Disney and then tell me that she is hyped more than anyone else. Worng. BTW, I have a 12 year old daughter, and I make sure I keep up with her interest, so I can help steer her in the right direction. That is why I know so much about Miley, Demi, Selena, Jonas Brother, Mirada Cosgrove, etc... I want to insure that what and who she is watching present a good example as to how to behave and to point out mistakes. I don't want her ot think entertainers are perfect. I want her to know that they are just like her and Miely is the closet thing to a normal teenager in Hollywood.

The worst Cinematical pieces are the ones where the writer simply assumes everyone agrees with him or her from the outset. Like this one.

"And speaking as a film critic who will probably have to sit through it should it ever be made". Why are you a critic then? You are a jerk! All the people who have worked with her always give positive feedback. You aren't willing to give this girl a chance just because she's a "tween" idol? Shame on you! This movie sounds great.

Probably because she has taste.

If Miley wants to make a move...why not? Anybody can make movies whether they're good or bad. I'd rather see a Miley Cyrus movie with my daughter than Paul Blart Mall Cop.
It sounds like you're afraid of her......HA!

I agree with you. I hate the girl. I think she is has no talent, she's not funny, and she has no future. Also, Nicholas Sparks is the schmaltziest writer ever. Maybe that means I'm a love cynic, but the film will probably be no better than The Notebook or Nights in Rodanthe.

Ugh. I hate people who bash disney actors just because they are disney actors. Yeah Miley Cyrus isn't the BEST actress but she does and should have a long career in the music industry. She has aunique voice and produces catchy songs. And also I hate when people judge films before they come out...and lets not forget Keri Russel started out in disney.

Sorry, got bad news for you all, Miley Cyrus sucks! It's that simple, she sucks and no one knows here outside the US. Nothing more annoying than this publicity made stars who are 14 and think they have power. Maybe after destroying Radiohead (hahaha) she can go herself in and safe our ear drums from her garbage pre recorded crap.

Let's see...Sparks has sold millions upon millions of novels, and had some of them made into movies. And Miley has sold millions upon millions of CDs, has a hit TV show, sold out a national concert tour where tickets were selling for thousands of dollars on the internet, and had the number 1 movie made of that same concert....does that add up to 'no talent'?
And as far as controversy goes, I think posing with a bare back for Vanity Faire is pretty tame. That was drummed up by some of the media because there just wasn't any real dirt on the girl.
I don't think a huge corporation like Disney (who know a thing or two about entertainment) would search the entire country for a talent and then promote her llike crazy if they weren't quite sure she was the real thing. They have a track record for discovering stars, such as JT, Britney, Christina, etc.. And she does write a lot of her own material, including her hits 7 Things and See You Again.
Stan you hit it right on the head...she is reported to be a joy to work with and everyone who counts can see the talent and potential she has.
Wherever the movie is made, it will be a shot in the arm for the film industry in that state as well as create jobs and inject money into the area.
I think I know why some people should stick to writing junky internet columns and other people should actuall produce motion pictures.

Why the hell do they keep putting her in movies? She has no acting talent at all, all she can do is that cartoony exaggerated acting that everyone on a kids show does and she can't even do that on the same level as, say, Kenan and Kel.
Once her current fanbase starts getting their period she's gonna need to start doing R rated stripper thrillers or get addicted to something to stay relevant.

I love how because Dawn Taylor doesn't like something, that means no one else can either.
I'm not the biggest Nicholas Sparks or Miley Cyrus fan, but they are obviously doing something right -- they are both very successful and have thousands, possibly even millions, of fans.
This film may be your worst nightmare, but so what? It doesn't give you the right to trash all of their fans. I am so glad that many of these comments are pointing that out to you. You really need to get off your high horse.
Like another poster said, if you don't want to sit through this movie, then don't be a film critic!
