When 'Twilight' Fans Attack
Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy, Fandom

Look, I'm all for being a hardcore fan of a particular piece of entertainment. Growing up I had G.I. Joe action figures and really enjoyed the Star Wars movies, but one thing I never did was attempt to slit the throat of someone who wasn't as keen on Luke Skywalker as I was. But we didn't have internet back in those days, and perhaps that's part of what's created this new breed of fandom -- this obsessive, violent behavior between kids who
Apparently there's a war brewing across the country between Twihards (folks who live, breathe, eat and sh*t Twilight for a living) and Antis (those who don't like Twilight and, instead of minding their own business, decide to instigate fans by crapping on the book and the movies). You may think it's sorta cute that these kids are all worked up over fictitious vampires and what have you, but The Twihard Attack Directory would lead you to believe otherwise. Yup, there's an actual directory that chronicles violent Twilight-related attacks, ranging from Slap on the Wrist (punched, smacked, wished miscarriage) to Felony (brick thrown at head, attempted drowning, beat with a bat).
Some of these "attack stories" do sound pretty lame and made up, but others seem like they could be real. Are there seriously gangs of Twilight fans out there who would go to great, painful lengths to protect the brand? And if so, what's going to happen when the next two films come out? New Moon will certainly make a Comic Con appearance this summer -- should the San Diego police be called in to make sure things go according to plan?
Have any of you witnessed or heard of violent Twilight-related activity between fans and non-fans? Is this being blown out of proportion, or should we expect a 60 Minutes story to pop up next month?

As insane as it sounds, I think that news stories about this kind of thing are going to start popping up, especially when New Moon comes out. I myself have read the books and enjoyed them, but I'm a little too old to get into the sweating, screaming and general insanity that is Twihards (I'm 23). It's not just Antis and Twihards that get into serious physical arguments, but also those WITHIN the Twihard fandom who don't agree on certain things. I have seen many girls have screaming matches that verged on cat fights, over the Edward Vs. Jacob debate, or whether the 4th book was creepy or not. It's to the point now that I'm embarrassed to admit in public that I'm a fan of the series-I do NOT want to be associated with THIS kind of behavior. These kids need a life.

When I saw a teen girl piggy back ridding a vampire who can walk in daylight up a tree like Tarzan, I felt like showing violence to someone. I held back because luckily, five years from now, no one will give a damn.

Who says vampires can't go out in the daytime? It's a fantastical world and NOT REAL. I say kudos to the author for coming up with a fresh, new perspective on the vampire genre. You may not like it, and that's ok. But almost $400 million dollars later, who really has the last laugh?

Twi on Twi crime is growing exponentially. I was just talking to that black guy Al Sharpton about this the other day, and he immediately cried "RACISM!!!!", at which point I had to calm him down and explain that Twihards and Twilighters were one-in-the-same, and hate crimes were being spurred by Summit, whose taken it upon themselves to hire young female stars for the series of movies.
Unfortunately, you cannot hire young women for movie roles, as we know, because non-acting girls take offense to not being cast in a movie in which they can be kissed or looked at by Robert Pattinson or Taylor Lautner.
It's a sad state of affairs, but this is the world we live in. I had a chair thrown at me today for saying that "Dakota Fanning is a good actress." The chair-thrower in question had never actually seen a movie in which Dakota starred, which is customary for those who are complaining about her casting decision.

I'm not a fan of Twilight at all, mostly because of the overhype it got. I read the plot on Wikipedia and it just sounded like a sappy romance novel that one would find in a grocery line or something. I repsect fans opinion though and figure its best to keep my mouth shut because I don't want to sound like a jerk. I will admit though that some fans might need pschyiatric help because they want that Robert Pattinson guy to bite them.

Ok this whole thing is rediculous.
On one side of things, some of the contents in these so called "attacks" are rediculous. Sure, I love my favorite movies, but I wouldnt threaten to hurt someone or actually hurt someone over them. I like the movie Waterworld, a film that the majority of its viewers would disagree with me. I'm handing out Chuck Norris patented roundhouse kicks.
But on the other hand, I need a bit more proof.
Anyone can go online and write their own fiction on a forum site. If all of these stories are true, show me a legitimate news source, such as a news source. If all of the stories I have seen online concerning alleged Twihard attacks, were true, one would even think CNN and Fox News would be just eating this shit up. I have yet to see legitimate proof. The stories, I would like to believe are true, even though they are completely a black eye for the people of today's society. I really would like to believe the stories. I really would.
But I can't just yet. I need more. I need proof that these alleged attacks are not erroneous.

Not completely untrue, just head over to this site. The blog is a gossip blog and the blogger keeps posting info on the filming going on in Vancouver and the cast. They've written hate mail to the blog and it's published them on the site. Absolutely nuts!
