'Half-Blood Prince' Release Date Moved Up!
Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, New Releases, Warner Brothers, Fandom, Exhibition, Family Films, Harry Potter, Summer Movies
No doubt you recall the dark days last August when Warner Bros. announced that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was being pushed from its Nov. 21, 2008, release date all the way back to July 17, 2009. Surely you still bear the emotional scars of those troubled times, and I apologize if my mentioning it has reopened old wounds. But you will pleased to know that Warner Bros. has heard your plaintive weeping and done the honorable thing. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is being moved up -- all the way from July 17 to July 15! That's two whole days sooner that we'll get to see Harry, Henrietta, Rob, Haggard, Prof. Mumblecore and all the gang do battle with Vadermort!
Astute readers might notice that July 17 is a Friday, making July 15 a Wednesday. Those readers might also recall that pretty much ALL of the biggest summer blockbusters have been coming out on Wednesdays lately. Cynical readers might wonder why HPATH-BP was ever scheduled for a Friday in the first place, and if indeed it was the plan all along to "change" it to Wednesday as a means of drumming up a little extra publicity now, in April, when most people wouldn't be thinking about the movie otherwise.
To those readers I say: You're probably right. Still, good news. A Wednesday release date means it's really coming out late Tuesday night, at midnight, maybe even 10 p.m. No word yet on when the pirated copy will be avilable on the Internet.

I don't know a lot about Potter, so I looked it up for fits and giggles.

Damn it! I felt really excited for a moment thinking it would be significant. Still, I will take the two days sooner!

Judging by the sarcastic tone of the article, I'm 100% positive the names are intentionally misspelled... I didn't think anyone needed to explain that...

They're still making these movies?
Seems to me this would have done better as a TV series after the first movie had been released.

If they go the Fox wolverine route, you may get a copy on the net in June missing 2% of the gloss over.. ;)

If you are reporting the news, then do it accurately. If you are trying to make a joke, then make it apparent. Putting in random names that look like either huge typos or glaring ignorance just makes you look like a douche.

While I do agree with your comment, I don't think it applies to this post. If 3/5 names he lists are ridiculously off from the real thing, then I'd have to say you'd be a bit clueless not to realize he's joking.

This is absolutely horrible!
I'm going to be taking summer school to get ahead for calculus next year, and I was sooooooooo psyched to see this movie on the friday because I knew that I would be able to actually see it at night or midnight with my friends from my old school (I recently switched).
But no! Now I'll have to wait those 2 extra days and I'll KNOW people have already seen it! This sucks so much. :( I'm happy that it comes out earlier for everyone, but I mean, I was looking forward to this movie SO MUCH! I love the Harry Potter books. :( Now what am I going to do? I'm going to be left out. I've always seen the premiers of the Harry Potter movies!

You'd think at least one name besides Harry's is correct!
'Henrietta' is actually Hermione, 'Rob' is Ron, 'Haggard' is Hagrid, 'Prof. Mumblecore' is Prof. McGonagall and the main evil charater is Lord Voldemort not 'Vadermort'!

I understand that this guy probably spelled the names wrong intentionally, but what's the joke here?? 'I'm so funny because I purposely spell names wrong'?? You're really reaching here, man...

I agree! I sort of laughed at Mumblecore but when I saw that Hermoine's name was misspelled - I realized that this guy never read the book!
