Why Does Brian Austin Green Desperately Want to Play Green Lantern?
Filed under: Casting, Warner Brothers, RumorMonger, Fandom, Comic/Superhero/Geek
Should a famous superhero be a man? Or a boy? Manly man Brian Austin Green feels that Hal Jordan, AKA The Green Lantern, "needs to be a man" in the upcoming movie version. Green told Comic Book Resources: "He needs to be somebody who lives a little and experienced a lot. So right now I'm just sort of trying to throw my name in and make it something that they might consider."
Green admits that his knowledge of Hal Jordan, and the history and origin of the Green Lantern, is very limited. His impression of Hal Jordan as "a guy who has a lot of demons and [is] fighting them constantly" apparently comes from playing with toys and watching Justice League cartoons. Green's interest in playing the part was piqued when a buddy sent him a text message about a fan-made picture, with his face pasted onto a classic shot of the Green Lantern; "then Megan [Fox] and I were sitting talking about it and it just kind of clicked."
Oh, boy. I can understand that if Megan Fox looked into my eyes and said, "Honey, you'd be great as Jabba the Hut," I'd be jumping into a fat suit and eating flies in a flash. Green might be the only person alive who has less knowledge of the Green Lantern than me, and that sounds like a very bad thing. So I asked Elisabeth Rappe, our resident expert, for a comment: "If you're going to pick a fan of the property, I wish they'd hire David Boreanaz. He's a huge Green Lantern fan, and he's who a LOT of people want. I think he would be excellent."
Do you think Brian Austin Green is the man to bring the Green Lantern to life? Should David Boreanaz play the part?

It really all depends on how much effort he's willing to put into the research if he gets the role. Christian Bale certainly wasn't a Batman fanboy beforehand and only read the comics once the idea of the role was brought to him. This isn't that different. Personally, I love BAG's work on Terminator and think he would actually make a pretty good Hal Jordan.

Well you really can't knoock him because half of the actors in hollywood or most who take roles based on videogames, books, and comic books don't know much of it or never heard of it. But that beside some of them do the character justice and some dont so I guess as long as they get familair with the character before filming startsas roshow said is good enough.
But personal I would rather see Brian Austin Green play Green Lantern than David Boreanaz. I dont know DB was cool in the Angel days but he just doesnt fit the part to me, maybe if it was a straight to DVD movie lol.
So BAG gets it Kudos to him.

Just because he doesn't know the history of the character is no reason for him not to get the part. You talk to most actors/actresses that play comic book based characters and they will tell you they never read the source material until they got the part.
He has actually been really good on the Sarah Conner Chronicles, I wouldn't mind him playing Hal Jordan.

I think since DB did the voice over for the Green Lantern in the animated movie that he should play the character in the movie. He always puts alot of effort in and hopefully he can have his shirt off for most of the movie. They would make the big bucks then :D

Just for the record I swear if another person says Nathan Fillion for a movie role I'm going to kill myself (not really) lol. No it's just getting annoying, its like every post Cinematical ask who should play the male role everyone says Nathan Fillion. I could see if its a fitting role but definitely not Green Lantern.
The only role I want to see him in soon though is in Uncharted: Drakes Fortune from the video game adaption. Because the similarities with the video game character; by the way who is also named Nathan (Drake) are really striking.
But thats about it until the next time Cinematical ask that oh so familiar question again lol

Yes, I think he would be great, so long as they are going for a buff macho kinda guy.
The Seth Rogen option appealed to me at first. You know, ditching the studly super-hero image in favour of someone soft and paunchy. But if they go that route, I say let's go whole hog and choose the Paul Blart:Mall Cop guy.

Are you joking or getting your Greens mixed? Seth Rogen/Green Hornet (still not loving that, BTW).

Brian Austin Green acted his ass off on the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I was not happy at all about him being on there to begin with, but he changed my mind. Unfortunately, he is probably going to be remembered for 90210. From what I understand, the ratings are low for the SCC. If he can secure at least a supporting role in something similar, then I think he can change a lot of people's minds. I am all for it.

I have to give this one to Boreanaz. over BAG. Boreanaz just has the superhero look, and he has the enthusiasm for the role which will work wonders during the promotion of the film.

I'm a Green Lantern fan and Brian Austin Green is, imho, perfect. His Terminator role showed he has what it takes, he has the look. He has my vote more than any other. Unlikely he'll get the role from what I'm reading. I also have some Green Lantern fanboy friends who have said in no uncertain terms that they'll definitely go see it in the cinema if he gets the role.

Boreanz? Fillion? Not going to happen.
When Warner Brothers casts their Green Lantern, they're going to be doing so with an not only toward GL sequels, but possible appearances in Justice League films. That being a long term plan, they're going to follow the lead of Spiderman casting a 22 year-old Tobey Maguire.
Because that way, if they get lucky, like the Spiderman franchise, and are still able to drum up interest for new films ten years into their run, they won't be stuck with a Hal Jordan in his fifties.

Before TSCC, I would have said no. Now, I would love to see Brian Austin as The Green Lathern. BAG was great in TSCC as Derek and he made me forget that he played on 90210.

Um yeah it's pretty funny that I'm the fan who made the picture.... it all started from a casting wish list on SuperHeroHype.com and I had been enjoying BAG on TSCC so I threw his name in and made the pic to back up my reasoning after people said I must be high or stupid for thinking he'd be GREAT for it. Then I posted it on imdb.com as well... funny how it's a small world. :)
