Monday Night Poll: Has Jamie Foxx Jumped the Shark?
Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy, Polls

Not too long ago, it seemed as though his career knew no heights. Jamie Foxx established his comedy credentials in the early 90s with his work on the groundbreaking, star-making TV show In Living Color, showcased his dramatic acting ability with Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday in 1999, and really knocked it out of the park in 2004 with the 1-2 punch of Taylor Hackford's Ray, for which he won an Academy Award, and Michael Mann's Collateral, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award.
Ray made people sit up and take notice of Foxx's musical capabilities. Since then he's been busy with his music career, selling millions of CDs, and has also been hosting a comedy show on satellite radio. As far as his movie career, though, it's been more problematic. Only a handful have been released in the last five years -- Stealth, Jarhead, Miami Vice, Dreamgirls, The Kingdom -- and, while his performances have been fine, they haven't set the world on fire.
He plays a schizophrenic musician opposite Robert Downey, Jr. in this week's release of Joe Wright's The Soloist, and told the Los Angeles Times he's decided to be more selective: "I've asked my agent to find me beautiful-character movies. That's where we flourish." He only has one other upcoming project set, the thriller Law Abiding Citizen, which is due next year, and the way he's talking, the 41-year-old Foxx sounds like he'd be content to be a dramatic character actor from here on out. Of course, this is the same man who made tasteless jokes about Miley Cyrus on his radio show last week, so maybe this is just a phase.
Has Jamie Foxx's career as a movie star jumped the shark? Take our poll and let us know.

The Soloist looks so lame. Admit it, it looks boring, preachy and predictable.

Jarhead and The Kingdom get him a pass for me for a long, long time.
As for the Miley thing... I really don't get why people were upset. He made a joke at the expense of a millionaire. Golly, how horrible.

I agree about Miley Cyrus. She deserves any and all criticism. Funny thing is, Jamie Foxx's show is on Sirius, so something tells me this isn't the first "CrAzY" thing he's ever said about a celebrity there. Anything goes on satellite radio... that's why I subscribe.

It only takes on good movie for him to get people talking again. Not every movie is going to knock it out of the ballpark. He's made great choices in movies he's made not so great. At least he acknowldges this and say he'll be more selective about his flim choices. That's more then what a lot of actors do. Actors like Pacion and DeNiro have been coasting along on thier legacies for decades. And maybe do a GOOD movie once every five years or so.

Jamie has never been a bankable A-list star but he's still looking like a solid enough leading man. I think he should probably be looking at some action-comedies but maybe he's getting offers and all the scripts are garbage.

it was funny. come on who is miley cyrus foreal? shes had no business saying what shes saying and i dont even really know who radiohead is. sure ive heard their name before but its not my kind of music.
the std stuff was a lil far but nothing to cry about. maybe mileys 16 year old ass should keep herself in check and not say stupid stuff like she wields any power.
she needs to remember shes one sex tape/nude photo/dui away from being replaced
these teen stars are a dime a dozen
everyone was pretty much a teen star there will be plenty more to come

Jamie Foxx is a boor...and he's funny that way. When he veers off that path looking for only "beautiful-character movies," he is just boring.

I don't think you know what "jumping the shark" means.

As I understand the expression, "jumping the shark" originally referred to the moment when a TV series had passed its high point, its peak, as in Fonzie on water skis jumping over a shark in "Happy Days."
What do you think it means?

I just don't see any analogous cheesy/the-thing-has-totally-lost-its-way event in Foxx's life or career. His movie career isn't tailing off because nobody cares any more; he's been concentrating on his music. And it wasn't him being a complete a-hole to Miley last week; that wasn't anything more than him being a complete a-hole.
I'm not saying his career is or isn't on the slide, and I'm not saying the Miley thing was or wasn't his Michael Richards moment. I'm just saying, whatever is or isn't going on, labeling it as jumping the shark wasn't the right term to use, becuase it has a fairly specific meaning that doesn't apply here.

To YouFaceTheTick and all the other A-hole supporters of Jamie Foxx's pedophillic rants against 16-year-old Miley Cyrus (and, for those who object to my using the term pedophillic, go back and listen to Foxx's "joke" about the size of Miley's chest), I guess the "little white b****" had it coming, huh?

I hope Jamie Foxx dries up and flakes off just like his career will. He's a verbal abuser of a child,...a disgusting person.
