Singer Extraordinaire Susan Boyle Sparks Movie Rumors
Filed under: RumorMonger
By now, you've probably heard of Susan Boyle. The 47-year-old British woman went on Britain's Got Talent, talked about her cat and never being kissed, and you could see all the eyes setting her up to be the next William Hung. Then she sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables, the jaws dropped, she got a standing ovation, and became an Internet sensation. All sensations get, at the very least, some movie rumors, and Boyle is no exception. According to the Telegraph, word on the street says that Simon Cowell is currently fighting off Hollywood offers, and that Boyle herself has been offered a movie role by Darla Rae. The site even goes so far as to say that Demi Moore might be interested in playing her in a film, since she Twittered about the performance making her cry. Oh, how that silly comment misses the point.
What would a Boyle film be about? Being born with minor brain damage, having learning difficulties, and being called "Susie Simple"? Please -- let's not make her the next "weird person" of the moment, and use the gal until the masses tire of the "spectacle" and ditch her. All too often, Hollywood strives for entertainment at any price, and we let it. After weeks of reading about the poor kids of Slumdog Millionaire, it would be nice to see some real people be treated with care and even a sliver of forethought.
And if you've somehow missed the Boyle craze, you can see her big number here.

I read the Demi Moore line and literally thought my palm was going to shoot through my face. Just because someone makes you cry doesn't mean you could play them in a movie.

I sincerely hope that the most flattering, factual motion pictdure will be made. I am sure that Susan will not sell out to that horse's arse Simon.

Celebrities are idiots. Demi Moore would like to play her? Is everything a "part" to these morons? Is the world supposed to be impressed that DM cried? We all cried because Susan Boyle sang a poignant song beautifully and meaningfully. We cried because we saw the derision on the faces of the audience and judges and realized how shallow our world has become that we suspect someone has no talent because she hasn't gone under the knife or syringe to morph into a shellacked inhuman she-mannequin. Susan Boyle is a woman; she is an individual; SHE is living her life; hopefully, she will continue on her journey (w/o bizarre Hollywood-inspired detours) and, along the way, wow us with more emotional songs...and DM can continue doing whatever it is that DM does.

Oh my god. This whole Susan Boyle thing has been blown way out of proportion. She has a beautiful voice, I do not deny that, but people are acting like she's the misiah returned from the afterlife. This is taking that whole '15 minutes of fame' concept too far. In a YEAR no one is going to remember this lady.
