Is 'Dazed and Confused 2' a Real Possibility?
Filed under: Comedy, RumorMonger, Remakes and Sequels

Dazed and Confused, Part 2. No, I'm not talking about that "spiritual sequel" we learned about in March. I'm talking about an honest-to-goodness sequel bringing back the characters we can't help but love. It seems that Matthew McConaughey, better known as the teen-loving David Wooderson, told MTV that it is a possibility.
"That's a very precious subject, that movie. We made such a gem... I've had loose discussions about what would be the next [in]carnation of a Dazed and Confused... [Richard Linklater is] not going to do it unless it's done the right way. It's a good idea, but he's gotta pick the right way to do it." The actor goes on to say how he'd love to see what everyone would be doing in 1992, and imagines Wooderson might have a few kids and run a community radio station.
While I'm not sure I'd want to see Wooderson in the family way, I would love to see these guys again in more than just quick clips from a reunion picnic. Would Mitch still pinch his brow? What sort of heated debates would Mike and Tony have years later? And would Cynthia still sport a fabulous fro? Is Slater still high? Would Michelle still make music (yes please!)? Is O'Bannion still in high school? Is Darla still a bitch?
If Before Sunset is any indication, this would be a fabulous sequel. Where do you think they all are 20 years later?

The problem is that a sequel could be nothing like the original. It's just not possible when you're revisiting the characters 16+ years later. It's going to have to be a different era with different music, and without all the drugs and alcohol.
It might be an interesting experiment, but I'd rather see the spiritual sequel than revisit these characters as adults.

I absolutely love "Dazed and Confused" but it might be best left alone. No need to mess with a "classic".

RICHARD
LINKLATER
He made a fantastic sequel to Before Sunrise with Before Sunset. He'd have nothing but a realistic view on how a sequel so many years down the road could be played.
That said, I have no idea how you make it as dynamic as the original.

I liked the first one, but can't say that I think a sequel is the best idea...

Dazed and Confused is a great movie. Shoot every time I see that movie I just want to call all my friends up and get drunk. But a sequel could be fun. That be quiet interesting doing it in the 90's and see Wooderson's kids act like him, and see the "I wanna dance" dude kids kick "the dominant male monkey motherfuker" kids ass so hard out at the watch tower. there would be plenty of ideas. they only i would not like is if they put fucking seth rogen in there. i hate that jerk, while i touch my eyebrows.

Seeing that Tony, the "I wanna dance" dude grew up to be the Hebrew Hammer, he might just have a chance!

Well duh it would take place at thier high school reunion, and would probobly be about how certain events of the day from the last film went on to affect or not affect them for the rest of thier lives.
