Hugh Jackman Gets 'Carousel,' 'Security,' and 'Wolverine' Sequel

The disappointment of X-Men Origins: Wolverine may actually have been worth it if its $85 million debut gives Hugh Jackman the industry cred he's always seemed to lack. It's difficult to believe such a perfect guy isn't considered A-List, but even as recently as Australia, Fox was still trying to sell him as an A Manly Actor You Could Cast In Stuff. Well, Australia didn't convince anyone (though I think he was the one of the standouts of the film), but apparently Wolverine did. According to Variety Jackman is just lining up projects right and left, all under his Seed Productions banner that he shares with his wife, Deborra-Lee Furness and producer John Palermo. Yesterday's Ghostopolis was just the tip of the iceberg. Now he's actively planning Wolverine's Japan sequel for Fox. The studio has also bought Matt Lieberman's spec script Personal Security for him. Jackman will play a "tough Gotham police detective" forced to play bodyguard to a spoiled heiress. Sounds fluffy, but Jackman really does do comedy well, so it could be fun.
But what's far more exciting than Jackman being Gotham City's Kevin Costner is the news that the long, long, long awaited Carousel may actually happen. Now a priority at Fox 2000, it has a finished script by David Magee. If you're a fan of the musical you might be a little worried to hear it's been updated, though Jackman promises it keeps the spirit of the original. He wants Anne Hathaway to be his Julie Jordan, but talks haven't even begun. Of all of Jackman's projects, this is the one I'm most desperate to see happen. While he's good in fluffy things like the upcoming Drive, he's capable of so much more than Wolverine. It's time he gets another film like The Prestige or The Fountain to prove it.

I would not so rush to follow up the Wolverine, but, I guess whatever works. Silver Samurai,Lady Deathstrike, Northstar, etc.
Oh, maybe Spiral too.

Good luck Hugh! He does seem obsessed about Anne Hathaway doesn't he? She is not my Julie, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for someone else. And here's hoping that the next Wolverine will be a better film...we can hope can't we?

I hate Wolverine.
I only saw this movie because Gambit is in it. They should make the next X-Men movie about Gambit's origins. I'd see that movie every single day :-)

He is the most gifted and versatile actor around today. He virtually disappears into some of his roles, ie. The Prestige, Erskineville Kings, The Fountain, and, yes, even Kate and Leopold. Unfortunately, he has often been victimized by flawed material, inept direction, shabby production or just poor choices. We'd love to see him in a laugh-out-loud comedy (where are those Coen Brothers?), or a believable modern day hero, such as the journalist Daniel in The Canal House, without monsters, ghosts, aliens, mutants, etc.--just real people. How about a buddy comedy with Will Smith.

I love Hugh Jackman, and I loved X-men the origins Wolverine. When I used to watch the cartoon, I was a Cyclops, and Rouge fan, but in the movies, Hugh Jackman's Wolverine won me over. There's a scene in the first film where he looks just like the cartoon Wolverine.
I'm excited to see him in a musical. I love his singing voice, and after listening to him and Anne Hathaway sing together their voices sound good together. I saw him sing three songs from Carosel on youtube at Carnegy Hall, and I hope it gets made because I want to go see it.
Even the best of the best have good and bad movies.

I would KILL to see Hugh in "Carousel"! His performance in the PBS presentation of "Oklahoma" blew me away! But the memory is fading, so I need a Hugh Jackman Broadway film fix! ASAP!
