McG Has High Hopes for 'Terminator 5'

How many time-traveling naked entities would you like to see in your immediate future? With Terminator Salvation ready to explode onto cinema screens on May 21, director McG is thinking about the next potential installment of the burgeoning franchise. "They've figured out time travel to the degree where they can send more than one naked entity," he told Film Journal International in a very interesting, lengthy interview. "John Connor is going to travel back in time and he's going to have to galvanize the militaries of the world for an impending Skynet invasion."
Set in 2018, Terminator Salvation takes place in a post-Judgment Day world in which Skynet has not yet figured out how to travel through time. McG says, "I strongly suspect the next movie is going to take place in a [pre-Judgment Day] 2011." With the ability to send more than one "naked entity" through time, "you're going to have hunter killers and transports and harvesters and everything arriving in our time and Connor fighting back with conventional military warfare," the director enthused, "which I think is going to be f**king awesome."
McG again floated the idea that Robert Patrick (or a scientist "that's going to look a lot like present-day Robert Patrick") will make an appearance, "talking about stem-cell research and how we can all live as idealized, younger versions of ourselves." Pardon me if I hold my enthusiasm for the next installment until I see TS. (Warner Brothers evidently is taking a similar 'wait and see' approach.) Also, the idea of a futuristic military battling modern-day armies sounds vaguely familiar, doesn't it? Based on the trailers and clips you've seen of Terminator Salvation, are you salivating at the prospect of Terminator 5?

If the movie turns out to be even half as good as the trailer, I'd say keep the terminators coming!! Also, bring back Sarah Connor Chronicles for another shot!!

Would a Terminator ever just quit? No. So keep the movies coming until I choke on a bagel at an old folk's home in Boca.

Just as they are releasing a movie that everyone wanted, about the future war, he is going to go backwards into modern times? Harvesters and Hunter-Killers in today's L.A. is sorta cool I guess.
Not completely thrilled about that idea...

TS looks awesome, but I hope they don't actually expand on the time travel technology idea. I mean, its already pretty ridiculous if you think about it. Why go back in time just once to kill sarah connor when she's pregnant. Why not go back to when she was 4 and kill her in elementary school, or to 1800 and kill her ancestors? And if you can start sending all your super advanced military robots back in time, then why not send them back to a time when they could wipe out all resistance? Just send them back to 1000 BC, wipe out humanity, and then have them build the machines necessary for skynet on their own. I'd rather see them just keep going with the battles that would happen in the future, and leave the time travel mythology to the first 3 movies. And as for the Sarah Connor Chronicles...that show is just AWFUL. I tried watching it for a while, and I caught every episode on Hulu, but it was too painful to sit through. Utterly ridiculous behavior by everyone involved in the show, except Summer Glau (Glau? Glaus? I can't remember). She's awesome.

Salvation was awesome! And I do believe that McG could go ahead with his idea using time travel and it could be great, but I have to agree with you, I'm more interested in Connor leading a 'movement' in the future.

I think that we can have our cake and eat it too. We can see Connor lead the resistance and fight the future war, and part of that war would be him traveling threw time to fight pre-judgement day. I think it could create some really cool scenes, and it could shine a new light on what was going on behind the scenes in the previous movies when everyone was traveling back in time.

Going back 1000BC to kill off humanity is a pretty stupid idea considering its humans who built the machines and processor that becomes self-aware. The machines would essentially be killing themselves by doing that.. deet de deet!

Apparently Rich doesn't know how to read entire sentences. If he had he would have seen me say that the robots who were sent back in time could build the machines necessary to send themselves back in time to wipe out humanity. See how easily that works out buddy?

The Future is were its at do not go back in time.
I really want to see more of the future story and less of the past. When the humans use dogs for there scouts to see if Robots are near or not.
Plus with the world destroyed it gives for a cooler story. Plus with all the human slave camps were the robots kill the humans is nice and a better setting then seeing people were the robots are just being made from the humans.
This would also mean the robots would be less powerful. So again I have always wanted to see the future war and now that it is finally here I want it to stay there.

Wow that’s just a terrible idea. Why go back?! I thought the whole point of this new trilogy was to go forward. To show John’s war against the machines in the future. To show how John and Kyles destinies play out together. To show Kyle sacrifice to go back in time. And to show how John wins the war. Why the hell would they waste the next movie going back. There is so much to do from where they left off in Salvation. John just finally met his father. I don’t get why we would go back to 2011. I really enjoyed Salvation but that sounds like it would totally ruin the new series. The sequel should focus on John finally taking control of the resistance and his growing relationship with Kyle. They should be setting up the seeds for why Kyle goes back in time. Have John give Kyle his Moms picture and all that. They should introduce that skynet is experimenting with time travel. But they definitely shouldn’t have John go back to 2011. It really blows me away how anyone could think that would be a good idea.
Also 2011 isn't pre-judgement day. Judgement day was in 2004 as seen in Terminator 3. So why the hell would John Connor time travel to 2011? It's totally stupid. If anyone with creative control reads this then DON'T DO IT! Terrible idea.

I think its a good idea, John has to do what he has to do, and wow that would set for some good scenes of mass panic and it will be a mix of resistance fighters forming into what they will become...What i liked about TSCC is we got to see this for John (thomas dekker), he was growing into a warrior, but we got cut short by stupid fox, someone over there is brain dead. theres so many shows that are actually bad that they could cancel like 24 i unno glee maybe!Dollhouse is ok, but im a big Joss whedon fan.

If they do actually make a fifith movie i dont want to see john go back in time. its better to go forward not backwards by the way why 2011. What is so speacial about that date.I think its better to just keep on going forward in the future because that is the whole point of terminator salvation is to tell the becoming of john connor and the defeat of the machines.

The robert patrick link just wouldnt make sense. The T-1000 in termiantor 2 took his identity from a police officer. So it wouldnt make sense that a scientist would look like him.
Unlike the arnie terminator who appeared as he is when he was transported back in time.
I liked salvation but they need to uphold the thread.

Noooo Noooo Noo and noooo!!! Those who are interested in T5 plan go and watch the stargate or something else instead the terminator and don't speak idiotic things....I wrote down several times....and visited a lot of forums and everywhere just the 11-12% of the 100% were interested in the t5 idea...The fans and other people are very dissapointed at this time...
Just think a little what is the terminator calls about...the franchise must to keep...( John Connor must to stay in that timeline, and first send back the sergeant Kyle Reese , and remember he was who sent back the second T-800 to protect himself... They should focusing to the contact of Kyle and John: as John become a real leader...and Reese a sergeant...and for example many people want to see the infiltrator units in action and special infiltratings, the birth of the T-1000 and another prototype of machines...and so and so....)
