What a Surprise -- Deadpool Getting A Spin-Off!

It's a real non-surprise that mere days after the premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, confirmed sequels and spin-offs have begun hitting the trades. (Of course, they had been basically a go-ahead since filming on Wolverine began, but that goes without saying.) Yesterday, Fox and Hugh Jackman confirmed they were actively developing a Wolverine sequel set in Japan, today the MTV Splash Page got the official word that they were going ahead with a Deadpool spin-off. (Variety and The Hollywood Reporter subsequently confirmed the story, but it did arise on MTV first.)Of course, if you saw Wolverine -- spoiler warning ahead -- you are undoubtedly wondering how this could be since Deadpool was cleanly beheaded by our feral hero. But those of you who stuck around for the credits and got the Deadpool secret ending saw that he picked up his head, broke the fourth wall to shush you, and went on his merry way. I'm going to assume that a Deadpool spin-off would actually proceed from this point, and not delve into Wilson's background pre-Wolverine. That would also go along with comments Ryan Reynolds made claiming he wasn't playing Deadpool in Wolverine, but Wade Wilson and the creature who becomes Deadpool. Considering what they did to that "creature," fans may be really glad there's some wiggle room in that statement.
Personally, I think they could retcon that, have Wilson stuck rotting in some cell, and pass that Deadpool wannabe off as some kind of clone. Stupider things were done in that film, I could excuse that rewrite ... and as Reynolds has said he wants a film that sticks to the character continuity, there might be some hope for the Merc with a Mouth.

Ahhh! Elisabeth, you might wanna throw a spoiler warning in there somewhere. Anybody who hasn't seen Wolverine is gonna be pretty pissed when they read that second paragraph. Now, having said that, how the hell are they going to do a deadpool movie? This makes no sense.

Yeah, spoiled for me. That's not what I was expecting. I'm pretty careful, but that was abrupt on the spoilage.

I hated seeing "Deadpool" with his mouth shut and being super mutant and taking on Wolverine at the end. Total waste.

I guess it could be done, because what I have heard someone say was that under deadpools mask in the comic he has a messed up face hence why he wears the mask (but i havent researched this).
And what I have seen from the Hulk VS. wolverine/thor movie that was released a couple of months ago deadpool can mend parts or his body back when they get cut off.
But even if they did pull it off how are the going to explain the cyclops blasting eyes and katanas coming out of his freaking arms like baraka in mortal kombat 2.

Any person who suffered through Wolverine DESERVES the satisfaction of helping other people avoid that movie. Easily the worst film of 2009.

Wait, YouFaceTheTick didn't like something? I'm shocked. Normally you come on here to say things are just terrible, or awful, or useless, or people are stupid, or somethings unfunny. Basically you like to give something a 2 out of 10. But to come on here and say something is a 1 out of 10, or the worst movie of the year? Incredible. Wolverine must have been even worse than I thought it was.

I would hope the Deadpool movie would explain what happened to Wade in the six years between his work with Wolverine and his transformation. Did he get terminal cancer and volunteer?

skimmed so i'd miss any spoilers - but just putting this out there - charlie kaufman should write, spike jonze should direct, and the fourth wall should be broken repeatedly and with gusto.
stay true to the character...

hopefully it is clone. bc the deadpool they had in the movie
is in no way is how he is in the comic book.
they have to totally rewrite his whole history.
and the extra powers he now has.

I am in a minority here, but I thought Weapon XI was a good setup for a future Deadpool. He wasn't really Deadpool, but he wasn't meant to be. He will be in the future. And I look forward to it.

Without giving too much away: I always thought his mutant powers were regeneration as well being skilled in martial arts and various weapons. Could be he'll get cancer from the Three Mile Island disaster, hmmmm.....

I think I read that they're gonna revamp it completely and make the Deadpool spinoff more in line like how he was in the comics.

why does the movie industry feel the need to redo decades of character background that has been cemented into the comic book culture. wolverine was such a pile of dumb i was dumb founded and what they did with deadpool was just unfathomable. i now if they take what they made in wolverine and then revamp it totally in the deadpool movie it will show that they have no business in doing these kinds of movies. if your plan from the start is to do interconnecting movies spun off from each other then get your stories straight from the beginning and stick to it throughout. how hard is that.
...so depressed
