Jessica Biel's Beauty Problem (Oh, Really?)
Filed under: Fandom, Newsstand, Home Entertainment
Big news: another beautiful actress laments that her good looks limit her acting choices. Jessica Biel says that being so attractive "really is a problem ... I just want an opportunity," she told Allure for their June issue, on sale next week. "If you don't like the audition, then don't hire me! But if you don't want to even see me - that's hurtful."
The quick conclusion to draw is that Biel is seriously delusional, that she's another spoiled, overpaid pretty girl. "Wah wah wah! Poor, poor, pitiful me!" However, none of the interview is online, only quotes that are scattered among various online outlets, so it's impossible to evaluate the context of her quote. Biel may, in fact, be delusional about her own abilities; on the other hand, what's wrong with yearning for the opportunity to demonstrate a wider range of her skills, and not to be judged by her looks alone?
Of course, thousands (if not millions) of less attractive people will never get to have the opportunities that she currently enjoys, limited though she may feel they are. Given a choice between a more talented, average-looking actress and a less talented, more traditionally-attractive actress, guess who wins the role? It reminds me of a scene in James L. Brooks' Broadcast News: when the handsome news reporter William Hurt asks, "What do you do when your real life exceeds your dreams?," the less attractive but more talented news reporter Albert Brooks responds: "Keep it to yourself!" Good advice for Jessica Biel. You can watch her strip down for a dramatic role in Powder Blue, now available on DVD, or catch her in Easy Virtue, due out in theaters on Friday.

I'd buy it if
A. She could act
B. She was better looking than just good looking. Being pretty (better than good looking) hasn't hurt Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Kim Basinger, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, Marisa Tomei, Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman, Susan Sarandon or a host of other actresses get meaty roles, often Academy awards and tougher acting gigs.
Sounds to me like she's looking for an excuse and trying the Eva Longoria route of "i'm too pretty and it hurts me career." Someone needs to sit Jessica down and explain, "Sweety if you didn't have a nice body, you wouldn't even have been in Chuck and Larry. Be thankful you can get parts in cheeseball comedies because you have a pleasing bosom."

do you realize the comparisons you're making?....if she was on a movie with either one of those actresses she'd have to be a cameo....if not another extra (and flashing to get your attention, that's the only way she can do it, showing nipples xD)

Apologies to her fans, but I think Jessica Biel is F-U-G-L-Y!!! I see nothing attractive about her (including her [gay] boyfriend), and I have not seen any particular acting talent.
Sorry, Jessica. You ARE delusional!!!!

I wrote a script for her. According to a brit ingenue, Maxim cover friend, it was "the best thing she's read" in her months in L.A. of getting hit with everything from American Pie (she got the lead but turned it down) to CSI NY (she got booked as a guest star but didn't have the right VISA papers) -another top character actor and Halle Berry's acting coach, raved about the script as well as my friend daytime star Austin Peck. The script is being re-written with another writer friend and will be even better. It was written specifically for Ms. Biel, who would play both herself and a struggling actress (de-glammed for that role) and explores the psychological struggle of identity while being hilariously funny, artsy and commercial, all at the same time. Biel's camp (won't say who but someone very close to her) passed. So, don't tell me there are no roles, Jessica. Your gatekeepers are blind!

The problem is not your beauty or lack there of Jessica. You're problem is you keep comparing your carrer to other actresses instead of focusing on your own. Stop whining that you aren't getting the same roles that Scarlett and Natalie are getting. Hundreds of actresses go up for those roles, its not personal when the director doesn't choose you. Are you really that hurt that you weren't in "American Beauty"? Move on. You want to do more indie films do more indie films, not crap like "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". Take some responsiblity for your carrer, and stop blaming others for not being the in movies you want to be in. Oh and rest assure, you're not THAT pretty.

And another thing, she's "beautiful" and she's blonde, why not try modeling?.....that would suit her.

No, you don't get to say that after you TURN DOWN stuff, Biel. It's not like people aren't considering you as a good choice for any film.
