First Reviews and Clips for Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds'

Quentin Tarantino's long-awaited WWII epic Inglourious Basterds premiered at the Cannes Film Festival mere hours ago, and so far critics seem to be finding the film entertaining, sure, if a tad too talkative. Would you expect anything less from the man? Here's a rundown of some early thoughts, and we've posted three new clips in between some of the quotes.
"Inglourious Basterds is great fun to watch, but the movie isn't entirely engaging. And it is defiantly an art film, not a calculatedly mainstream entertainment. Tarantino throws you out of the movie with titles, chapter headings, snatches of music. You don't jump into the world of the film in a participatory way; you watch it from a distance, appreciating the references and the masterful mise-en-scene. I can't wait for this flic! With half of the critisizims coming from the likes of Variety,the hollywood reporter, and empire, i feel even more excited about this film!! Not too mention coming from female journalists, who, Lets face it,are not lining up for Tarantino flics or even consider themselves fans of the man, especialy ones who work for mainstream media outlets. You gotta understand Tarantino and his films, you gotta be a fan, or your just not going to get what he is going for. If anything its the stupid wienstiens fault for trying to mainstream something that isn't mainstream. Tarantino was never the man that had mainstream, for the masses type of appeal, he makes movies for fans of movies.

The good review from "Total Film" says 'his best movie since "Jackie Brown"? Even if you disregard "Kill Bill" which I actually thought was much better then "Jackie Brown", "Jackie Brown" is probobly the worst Tarantino film. Mostly because it was an adaptation and didn't really feel like HIS movie, which he's acknowledged. I hate when critics' criticisms of Tarantino films are, 'its too talky'. Tarantino is known for his dialouge, and you want to take away one of his strongest assests? If the thing was just a mindless bloodbath would we care what happens to any of the characters without those long-winded moments of dialouge?

Interesting, Jackie brown is one of my favorites. I like it because its a "character piece." We get to know ALL of the characters in JB better than 90% of the characters in the rest of his films.
He even got De Niro to not be De Niro for a change... OHHH and it's the only movie that Chris Tucker does not make me want to blow my brains out!
In order for me:
1. Reservoir Dogs
2. Jackie Brown
3. Pulp Fiction
4. Kill Bill
5. Death Proof
and at "1.5" I would add his 'Four Rooms' segment, GENIUS.

Pulp Fiction is his ONLY great movie, and I have trouble w/ that one too, but it should have won the Academy Award for best picture. All of his other movies are so camp, I wonder why QT isn't Gay.
