Who Should Be in the New Generation of 'Ghostbusters 3'?
Filed under: Comedy, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Casting, RumorMonger, Fandom, Remakes and Sequels

Rocky, Rambo, Indy, all of the old icons are making their way to the big screen, and as we know, our favorite ghostbusters are hoping to head in that same direction. But rather than just jumping into the action, we learned back in March that this Ghostbusters sequel would have the old pros handing over the reigns and mentoring a new batch of ghost fighters. Now if Dan Aykroyd has his say, this will mean creating a larger new core team that will finally increase the female ghost-fighting power.
While talking with the LA Times about the particulars of the third film (he says Sigourney Weaver is in, as are the ectoplasmic specialists, and that he wants Harold Ramis to direct), Aykroyd said that he's pulling for a "new generation" ghostbusting team. This one would have five members, at least a few of whom are women. Specifically, he's hoping for Alyssa Milano (who lent her voice to the new game), and Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku. "I think they're amazing."
I get the feeling that they're trying to go for a more sleek ghosbusting feel, rather than simple comedy. Neither actress is a big name in the world of laughs, and both have their feet firmly planted in the supernatural fighting biz. So this becomes a bittersweet yay: women are entering the flock, but will we see some of that classic comedy go out the window as the story gets modernized? I like it when things get a little more slick, but please -- not too slick.
Are these the two women you'd like to see fighting the ghosts? Or, would you wish for a more comedic bent with someone like, say, Tina Fey? Who should be the lady ghostbusters?

The only amazing thing about Eliza Duskhu is how many fanboys have been snowed into thinking she's either talented or attractive.

This may sound sexist but i would rather have all men. I jsut can't see ghosthusters with women busting ghost. Also i would rather see a bunch of old guys busting ghost Vs a new team.

Only one female comes to mind for several reasons...
Linda Cardellini!
She has comedy chops from Freaks & Geeks.
Actiing chops from ER
Plus... she was Velma in the live action Scooby Doo movies!
And she's still hot.

Yes... plus if it's the Apatow crowd that is getting the GB crown handed to them (Rogen, Siegel, Rudd, Hill, etc.) she's worked with a bunch of them.
In fact, i'd get behind casting Samm Levine or the guy who played Bill for one of the goofier nerdier ghost busters (like a Rick Moranis character).

Amy Poehler is prime for that type of big budget comedy. Not too sure about Maya Rudolph. And dont' get me started on Kristen Whig (sp)? She is terrible.
Anna Faris is an obvious choice. And her House Bunny co-star Kat Dennings is very good as well (also in Nick and Norah, etc.)
Another House Bunny and Super Bad actress is Emma Stone.
Any of these would be WAAAY better choices than Milano or Dushku for a big budget comedy. And they all have (relatively) big picture experience as well.
Maybe I should be a casting director....

Yes, Wayne I used to think Eliza Dushku was more talented than she is but, to be fair, Dollhouse is more challenging than you would think. Alyssa Milano is not exactly Kate Winslet either but that's a complement in the looks department.
That being said, this could be a movie with these two as detectives trying to hunt down a killer condom in NYC while speaking German and I would still see it. Granted, I saw that movie without these two hotties but the fact of the matter is that the only thing Ghostbusters has been missing is some eye candy.

i don't see why they don't, you know, get women who actually have a comedic background/talent. there's plenty of women out there who are more than just a pretty face and are actually funny. kristen wiig, tina fey, you know.

Not for nothing but I think if there will be women ghostbusters, which would be great, it would be nice to make them culturally diverse. Why not have someone playing let's say Ernie Hudson's daughter taking up the reigns for her father. What about the girl from Alien vs Predator, hot, hot, hot. I also could see Summer Glau as one. She does not have a comedic background but she has had some hints of that ability in bot the Terminator series and the old Firefly series and the Serenity movie.

I second the mentions of Cardellini and Banks. Two more off the top of my head: Mya Rudolph and Julianne Moore.

It seems a little obvious to me that by name-dropping Eliza Dushku and Alyssa Milano, both very east-coast born girls that at least one of them will play the daughter of one of the original Ghostbusters. So to just name any "funny" lady like Elizabeth Banks, would be sort of silly. Eliza Dushku can certainly be funny. She was the ONLY watchable thing about "The New Guy" and she wasn't so bad, (even though the movie wasn't so great) in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back."

Aykroyd is clearly a fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger movies: both of these lovely ladies played his daughter in Commando and True Lies, respectively.
Who wants me on their trivial pursuit team?!

Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
It's about time she gets some payback for all the hell the supernatural has put her characters through over the years
