Brad Pitt to Play Steve McQueen?
Filed under: Action, Drama, Casting, RumorMonger, Brad Pitt
Steve McQueen's widow might think that Daniel Craig would be the perfect actor to bring her husband back to life on the big screen, but it doesn't look like that's the direction Christine Peters and Michael Cerenzie are going with their adaptation of Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel. In fact, if rumors are true, they're looking for the man who was once rumored to be remaking McQueen's classic Bullitt -- Brad Pitt. The Examiner says the actor is about to sign on to play McQueen in the biopic, which will kick into production later this year. They seem fairly happy with the news, stating: "The casting might work, Pitt resembles McQueen and shares the late actor's love of beautiful women, fast cars, and motorcycles." Me, I'm not so sure.
It all comes down to "the pretty." McQueen definitely had looks himself, but he was one of the men considered sexy for rugged strength and charisma, not for perfectly balanced, superstar features. He was the man you might dig in spite of yourself -- which is why McQueen's widow made a pretty good call with Craig. But Pitt ... is he too pretty? Too much of a looker and too little of the rugged machismo? While I've no doubt that he can handle the acting, could Mr. Jolie bring to life that "it" that made Steve McQueen so damn cool?

Daniel Craig would be a much better choice to play McQueen. He looks a bit like him, plus he has the rugged good looks that Steve McQueen had. Brad is too much the pretty boy.

MkcQueen'as widow made the better call. Daniel Craig is a much better fit as McQueen than Brad Pitt! Craig has that rugged sexiness, and does resemble McQueen more than Pitt, plus he can act circles around Pitt. Brad Pitt is too much of a Hollywood pretty boy, not ruggedly sexy in the least.

NEVER refer to Brad Pitt as "Mr.Jolie".....and there is NO QUESTION Brad Pitt has what it takes to play Steve McQueen, he can play any role Hollywood can come up with, and he has many of the same interests as Steve McQueen. I think he'd be great! For the record...
Brad Pitt is devatstingly handsome, not pretty.

How about that guy from "Band of Brothers"? He looks just like Steve McQueen but I think he's British.

I'm a McQueen fan, and also love Daniel Craig. Pitt is gorgeous, but doesn't have the gravitas to pull off the inherit, quiet, masculine power McQueen had by just being in the room. Craig portrays this far weightier than Pitt ever could. Pitt is very cool, but you can see him getting a manicure and smoking a joint, not commanding respect from men like McQueen, Redford, or Newman.

Brad too pretty? In Jesse James, he had the mouth (physical, not vocabulary) of a redneck trucker. He's old enough to ugly himself up.

Brad Pitt lacks the right look and the cool factor. McQueen had it naturally Brad seems like he tries way too hard to look cool. Angelina is cooler than Brad. Plus, I may be in the minority but I don't believe Pitt is a good actor. He's a more of a celebrity than an Actor.

Orida don't know. Brad Pitt may be a little more "prettier" than McQueen but Daniel Craig (going on looks, here) looks kinda like McQueen as seen by Jack Davis. Playing a naturally sexy character like Steve McQueen would be good for Pitt's resume. I mean just picture Brad/McQueen slipping on black turtle neck smoothing down his close cropped hair and squinting through some cigarette smoke. By the by.

I see I'm REEEEEEAL late on this but: Eric Close played the McQueen character in the TV series "Magnificent Seven", though I personally don't see the resemblance. I see Daniel Craig, visually. I agree that Daniel has a rugged sexiness that Brad Pitt could never attain (heck, only Gerard Butler got close to it in 300) but I haven't seen enough of his acting to know if he could pull off a legitimate impersonation of McQueen. In spite of Brad's girlish looks, I DO thing he is a good enough actor to pull it off. Just my two cents...

I'l be ill if Brad Pitt plays Steve McQueen. He's very nice on the eyes, but far too pretty, and even looks sweet. His cool is affected, not natural.McQueen's coolness just oozed off him for nothing. It was an inherant part of him, that didnt need trying.Daniel Craig is perfect for this role, for two reasons. He resembles Steve more than Pitt, and he is also carrying that silent cool bit.Not quite as strongly as Steve, but close. And,he's a great actor! Someone here mentioned the English actor that was in Band of Brothers.I tried to post about him,as a reply, but it didnt take. His name is Tom Hardy. He was only in the one episode.I am a huge fan of his. My fave role of his was Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights. He was such a foul guy,but still wickedly hot.Yes,he might just be able to pull it off. .Thing is though,he's too young. And yet,he's a thug in real life,(a HOT thug though)and wouldnt have a problem with the toughness issue.Tom is just a hardass in real life, and it comes across in his acting.
Just, for the love of God,..dont put Brad Pitt in there! I swear,I'll throw up.
