It Isn't a Pipe Dream: 'Doctor Who' Movie is in the Early Stages
Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy, RumorMonger
My fangirl heart went a-fluttering almost two years ago when news popped up that Doctor Who might get a feature film. At the time, it was only the littlest morsel to chew on. A bigwig at the BBC had said that they would not rule out a feature adaptation of the irresistible sci-fi show. In other words -- it was a big, fan-tugging tease with absolutely no gaurantees. But now it looks like it's one step closer to reality. While the BBC was covering news that David Tennant would pop up on The Sarah Jane Adventures before handing over his sonic screwdriver to Matt Smith, a much tastier morsel was revealed. An unnamed spokeswoman for BBC Films confirmed that "a script is in development." Now they warn that this doesn't gaurantee that the film will come to fruition, and if it does, it's a long ways away. But we've already waited months since the last bit of news, so I'm thinking fans can be patient, especially if it means getting big-screen Who.
The only question, then, is who would star on it, and what would they possibly do to change things up for the feature treatment? We haven't seen the newest Who yet, but I can't help but hope that it would be Tennant up there reveling in one last adventure. Heck, they could even mess things up and bring back the different-yet-excellent Christopher Eccleston. What say you?

I am a huge Dr Who fan and i would love to see a Dr Who feature film. I am hoping I am gonna love the new Who as much as I loved David Tennant - he is a tough act to follow. But then again I thought the same when DT took over from Christopher Eccleston. I really dont care who would be in the movie - as long as its a Dr Who.

A Dr Who film would be awesome. I am calling the surprise ending to the future movie; the Daleks are actually Time Lords. Wrap your mind around that nugget!

If a Dr. Who film is made, I will definitely be there! I agree that though I luv Christopher Eccleston, I am in hopes that the "powers that be" choose David Tennant as Dr. Who. Roles such as this one need an unknown face (that is to say unknown to the American general public). Either way, I'll be looking forward to Dr. Who hitting the big screen.

If this new movie goes ahead, it will be the 4th Doctor Who film (I believe). I think they should show the 8th to 9th Doctor regeneration (Paul McGann to Chris Eccleston) at the start, then base the movie on Eccleston in the time war. The time war is a big event in Dr Who we never actually saw, happening after the 1996 TV movie but before the series comeback in 2005.
Just imagine that. The battle scenes with Daleks and Timelords, all wiped out at the end apart from our Doctor. And at the very end, Eccleston could either walk away so the 2005 series is later on, or he could detect living plastic activity and run off, like he's off to meet Rose in episode 1.
Great potential really.

I Definately agree with Adam!! They need to fill in the gap when Doctor 8 (McGann) left Earth after the Atomic Clock epi during the 2000 New Year Celebration and when Doctor #9 (Eccleston) met up with Rose!! What did happen during the Time War???? Inquiring minds want to know! And I would love to see Chris Eccleston again as the Doctor. Like he said at the end to Rose, "You were Fantastic, Rose and do you know what? So was I." HE CERTAINLY WAS!! I'm looking forward to seeing him as Destro in "G.I. Joe:Rise of Cobra" this summer!

Good golly gosh, wouldn't it be loverly if they took the character seriously like they did for the few years a decent producer took control of the show back in the mid 70s? Make it a decent sci-fi / horror story with a Doctor with some gravitas, not the giddy nitwit wussies that have inhabited the role in the past few years.
And a time war story would be awful. No no NO prequels! Haven't you people learned anything from Episodes 1-3, Terminator Salvation, AvP, and The Exorcist 4? Prequels suck cyberballs!
PS author, it's spelled "guaranteed".

A prequel showing McGann's regeneration into Chris' doctor would be amazing, especially if it offered more Time War clues. The icing on the cake would be if Tennant had something to do with it too, perhaps a sneaky visit to spy on former selves.
I'm gutted there's no confirmation yet that it could be the third Tennant project....I hope that it is!!!! I would go see a movie like that every day that it's shown to thank them for making it!!
